Description

In 1957 the 300 SL was introduced as the successor to the highly popular and innovative Gullwing. The 190 SL was widely produced with nearly 26,000 examples created, dating back to 1955. Both the 190 SL and 300 SL production ended in 1963. The next version of the SL-Class cars was the 230 SL that had a low waist line and large curved windows. It was given the nickname 'pagoda top.'When the 230SL came on the scene in 1963 it was much improved over it's predecessor, the 190SL. Front disc brakes and independent rear suspension were nice advancements, but the big news was the fuel injected 2.3 litre six. Now silky smooth and capable the 230SL sold well, and was soon nicknamed the "Pagoda" SL because of it's tiered hard top shape. Today these wonderful Mercedes' have a huge following and are very popular with discerning collectors, both men and women. The car you see here is a beautifully restored '64 Mercedes Benz 230SL that comes finished in red with tan interior. The car comes with the seldom seen automatic transmission as well as both the hard top and soft top. The paint on the car is a respray that is a few years old and looks very good. The hard top is equally as nice as well as the tan soft top which shows no tears or staining. Both front and rear bumpers are in good condition and have a great shine to them. Inside, the seats have been recovered with tan leather hides that look great. The carpet dash and door panels look good with no major wear showing as does the carpet. There is some very minor staining showing to the carpet from age but overall they look good. All gauges are in good working order as well as the AM radio and power antenna. Under the hood, the 2.3 liter inline six is very clean and well kept. The motor appears to be very original for the car with no major modifications. Turn the key and the car starts up with no issues and goes down the road perfectly. We recently put over 100 miles on the car with no issues or problems. The steel wheels are wrapped with Michelin radials. Red hub caps with stainless trim rings set the car off. In the trunk you will find a full size spare as well as a jack. Mileage currently shows 19,522 kilometers and the VIN number is 11304212008410. This is originally a Euro spec car but is being sold on a clean title.
