1992 Jaguar XJS

SOLD

Description

Only two cars sold in North America during the 1970s featured flying buttress styling and the Jaguar XJ-S Coupe was one of them. This model has the unexpected benefit of having a five-speed manual transmission, which is a delight behind a V-12 motor. Mr. Fritz purchased the car in 1999 with 38,000 miles, upon his passing it was transferred to his daughter.

Made in May 1991 in Coventry, England, the car's paint and trim are in overall very good order and the bodywork is straight and solid. The chrome and rubber wraparound bumpers are in excellent order. The car formerly lived near the seventh fairway of a country club, so the vehicle has had three golf ball hits it, all on the driver's side.

The car has blackwall radials surrounding factory lace alloy wheels.

Under the hood is a high-efficiency 5.3L SOHC 24-valve V-12 engine (code HE) with upgraded SS exhaust. These engines were converted to Lucas' Constant Energy Ignition (CEI) in 1982, to deliver a more reliable spark but it was superseded in the XJ-S in mid-1989 by another from Magneti Marelli. The Marelli ignition system was used until the end of XJ-S production. It is backed by a five-speed manual transmission.

With Doeskin Connolly Leather seats and Wilton wool carpet, the interior is The previous owner was an audiophile, which explains the Becker Monza stereo. Additionally, it has LED lighting throughout the interior.

The XJS was relaunched in its final form in May 1991 under Ford Motor Company's new ownership, as a division of its Premier Auto Group. Ford dropped the model name's hyphen, marketing it as the XJS. The rear side windows appeared enlarged despite having identical glass apertures as the earlier cars, and the buttresses remained, minimized by the new side window trim. Designer Geoff Lawson noted the buttresses were part of the car's character. Outboard rear brakes replaced the more complicated inboard brakes of previous models.

Coupe competition to this Jaguar in 1992 included: Acura's NSX, BMW's 850i, Chevrolet's Corvette, Dodge's Stealth R/T, Ford's Thunderbird SC, Mitsubishi's 3000 GT, Nissan's 300ZX and Porsche's 911.
