ThePanoz Roadsteris a sports car launched in 1992 by the Americanmanufacturer Panoz Auto Development Company of Georgia. The Roadster was succeeded by theAIV Roadsterin 1997. They were built usingaluminum, similar to that of the Plymouth Prowlerfirst sold several years before in 1997. This Danny Panoz constructed roadster was the first American built aluminum intensive vehicle. In 1994 Panoz developed an aluminum chassis for the Roadster. This new chassis would both reduce assembly time (yet 350 man hours were still put into each copy), and reduce weight improving performance. In 1996 a new prototype was unveiled, which differed substantially from the original car. It had an extruded aluminumspace framewith a central backbone. Consequently the new Roadster was at approximately 70% aluminumand was dubbed anAluminumIntensiveVehicle, theAIV Roadster. The new engine, a 4.6 liter Mustang SVT Cobra 4-cam V8 produced 305 horsepower, combined with a 5 speed Borg-Warner T-5 manual transmission and lighter chassis increased the car's power-to-weight ratio significantly. With the weight savings, including the 18 x 8 Kosei Seneca S5R aluminum alloys, an air conditioner was installed with little overall weight or performance change. The last year the AIV Roadster was made was 1999. These Panoz are increasingly difficult to find and in such solid well kept condition next to impossible. This extremely good looking and well equipped AIV will delight even the most discerning sports car enthusiast or collector. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!...
