Description

Seeking a classic camper that is not a Volkswagen bus? Check out this 1969 Chevrolet G10 ½-ton Camper Van. This van was home-built many years ago and you can tell that it was someone's labor of love as it was left fully stocked with camping gear, fishing rods and tells a story of a family's journey around the East Coast by the maps left behind.

During the mid-1960s, the Big Three quickly figured out that vans sold well as customers used them for much more than simply hauling items and people from Point A to Point B. This one is painted in beige with a Mom's Attic-type extension on the roof. The paint is in overall good order, but the chrome is pitted and shows patina. the bodywork is straight and sold, the engine bay between the front bucket seats is in satisfactory order. The beige bumpers fit tightly to the body.

This van rolls on Vercelli white stripe radials, size 215/75R14 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on steel wheel with beige beauty rings and topped with moon hubcaps. All tires and wheels are in very good condition.

Nestled in that engine bay between the seats is a 327 CID V-8 engine. Backing the engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission. This van has many new parts – brake drums, brake pads, master cylinder, starter, voltage regulator, ignition switch, pigtail, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, cylinder head and intake manifold.

Inside, the front buckets are finished in green plaid and are in satisfactory order. The brown floor covers are in okay shape, too. Horn is inop. The headliner and inner door liners are made of simulated wood and fit the period vibe the van exudes. A column-mounted shift lever and factory AM radio complete the front section but there is more behind the front seats.

The van has two beds, storage units, a 12-volt refrigerator, a sink with fresh and gray water tanks, a 120-volt exterior hookup and 12-volt power from battery control interior lights. There's a well-worn leather briefcase with manuals and maps and a new Sunbrella awning.

In the front, the Chevrolet “bowtie” emblem was changed from red to blue this year.

Competition to this Chevrolet in 1969 included Ford's Econoline 150, Dodge's A-series Van, GMC's Handi-van and Volkswagen's Type 2 van.

If you are looking for a classic van to take to car shows and cruise nights, this one would be a standout and you wouldn't find a twin anywhere nearby. Come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to check its groovy-ness out for yourself!
