1994 Mercedes-Benz SL600 Roadster

Replacing the Mercedes 560SL and its relatives that dominated the two-door coupe market during the 1970s and 1980s was no easy task, but Mercedes proved up to the mark with the R129 class. We purchased this our of Arizona from Leslie B. where she used the car sparingly, it was previously on an actual mileage Arizona title and she purchased the car in 2019.

This example, made in Bremen, Germany in November 1993, this example is dressed in Imperial Red (code DB 582). The paint and trim are in overall excellent order, a testament to the care this car received from its one-family ownership in dry Arizona. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the trunk's cargo bay is nearly immaculate and contains the car's original radio. This model has Mercedes' famous monowiper system. The 12 cylinder SL600 with low mileage are getting increasingly popular and hard to come by, not to mention in the most desirable color combination.

This car rolls on new General G-Max AS-05 radials, size 225/55ZR16 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a factory chrome, alloy wheel. The wheels are all in very good order.

Under the hood is a 6.0L DOHC 48-valve V-12 engine (code M120) making 389 horsepower! It has an aluminum engine block lined with silicon/aluminum. The aluminum DOHC cylinder heads are four valves per cylinder designs. It uses sequential fuel injection (SFI) and features forged steel connecting rods. Backing this motor is a four-speed automatic transmission (4G-TRONIC) (W5A 030). Driver convenience features are many - automatic climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, cruise control, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors, power seats and headlight wiper/washers.

Safety equipment includes dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes. This car was recently fully serviced, including an oil change.

Inside, the car's camel interior is a good contrast to the exterior color and offers a lot of warmth behind the wood gracing the center console. The front bucket seats are in overall great shape but the driver's seat shows some wear. The tan carpet and headliner of the original hardtop remain in very good order. The oversized four-spoke steering wheel is present and while the dashboard looks great, the driver's door panel has a blemish involving the door speaker. The center console and gated shift lever look great, but one of the center console tambor covers in broken. Rounding out the interior is a Pioneer AM/FM stereo with CD player, flip up screen with back up camera and original stereo is included. This car has a distinction of being the first passenger vehicle to have seat belts integrated into the seats as opposed to anchoring them to the floor, B-pillar and transmission tunnel.

Competition to this Mercedes in 1994 included BMW's 8-series, Chevrolet's Corvette Convertible, Ferrari's 348 Spider and Porsche's 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet.
