1959 Morgan Plus4 SS Convertible Extremely Rare Car Mostly Original Condition European Right Hand Drive Import Believed to be Purchased by Christopher Lawrence Believed to Tuned by Lawrence Tune Well Maintained MotoeXotica is excited to announce our latest addition, a 1959 Morgan Plus4 SS convertible with an incredible history. Known for extremely limited production numbers and use of usual materials, the Morgan Motor Company has a steep tradition in British automobile and racing history. This car started life as a 1959 Morgan Plus4 believed to have been purchased by legendary British racing driver Christopher Lawrence. A driver who battled regularly at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, twice in Formula One, and many other racing series. After retiring he founded Lawrence Tune which became a tuning house for Morgans Plus4 models. The previous owner believed this specific Morgan to have been purchased by Mr. Lawrence and personally converted to a Lawrence Tune Team Car, winning his first British Racing and Sports Car Club race in this car; although verification is nearly impossible. In 1975 the car was imported to the United States where it has benefited from several refurbishments. Since being imported from London, most of the Lawrence Tune parts have been removed or altered to make the car easier for public driving. In 1994 the owner sent this Morgan to GT Cars of Bloomington Minnesota where it went under an extensive mechanicalservice. The Lawrence Tune competition steering wheel was replaced with a 14 touring steering wheel, as well as conversion to engine driven cooling fan, all hoses were replaced, all fluids drained and replaced, new wheel bearings, brakes fully serviced, new U joints and seals, SU carbs refurbished and mounted, electrical system check, fullfuel system flush, and finally the engine was tuned to the new hardware. The work performed by GT Cars put this Morgan back on the road and readyfor use on the United States roads. Then in 2006 the car went through another extensive service. The fuel system was completely gone through by removing, flushing, re-lining the gas tank, and adding new fuel pump. A brand new Morgan heater replaced the original heater and the fabric hood was removed and reinforced. As reportedby the previous owner. The last majorservice was completed in 2014, in which the car was completely gone through once again. The entireelectrical system was replaced, including a new starter motor, fuse box, fuses, two multi switches, horn, and a battery too. Both front and rear brakes were replaced including the front calipers, master cylinder, brake cylinders, brake lines, and brake pads and shoes. Finally a new cooling kit was added, along with new tires (including the spare), fuel pump, and carburetors refurbished at substantial cost. With regularmaintenance, this Morgan has remained inmostly original condition. Painted in a bright yellow, there is no chance on lookers wont notice this fantastic car! Overall itshows extremely well although there are a few visibleimperfections in the paint, as to be expected from age. True to the Lawrence Tune Morgan SS, the passenger side hood received an intake scoop to improve air flow to the carburetors. The body panels are in good condition with only minor cracks appearing on the fenders and the cowl. Original to the car is the convertible top which still looks good and performs its intended use well. It has received numerous repairs over it life time, but for being original it is in very good shape; in fact the fastening clips are still presentas well as one ofMorgan's signature features, the leather bonnet strap. Previous owners have kept the interior as original as possible, but both the black bench seat and black carpet have beenreplaced. As a result, they are in very good condition and show very minor signs of wear. The 14 wood touring steering wheel is in good condition with only minor signs of exposure to the elements. Both the wooden dashboard and gauges appear to be original with excellent patina, all of the gauges work with the exception of the fuel gauge. All of the other functions on the dash work as well, however it should be noted that the windshield wiper motor makes a slight noise when in operation. Mechanically this Morgan is very sound, benefiting from the previously stated maintenance over its lifetime. However we did not receive any receipts or documentation from the prior owners to verify all of this. Powered by a Triumph TR3 inline 4 cylinder, the tuned engine has plenty of power to push the extremely light body down the road. The engine revs extremely smoothly and has a very aggressive exhaust note too. Mated to the TR3 engine is a 4 speed gear box that rewards the driver with a crisp gear change when driven swiftly. All four brakes are in ideal working condition, benefiting from multiple services and replacements. Finally the newer Vredestein 155/15 tires are in great condition with hardly any tread-wear and no dry-rot. What are you waiting for? This Morgan Plus4 SS replica is in very rare mostly original condition, and is without question one of the most unique and hard to find European classics to be had at such an entry level price point. .
