1949 Baby Lincoln Convertible Series 9EL Recently finished in correct Alberta Blue Very rare one year only production Believed to be 1 of 550 Power convertible top Power windows Interior recently finished in correct upholstery Chrome in excellent shape 152 hp Flathead V-8 MotoeXotica is pleased to offer this beautifully restored 1949 Baby Lincoln. Officially named the Series 9EL but commonly referred to as the Baby Lincoln, the reference is from Lincolns most expensive model the Cosmopolitan. This was Fords first post-war vehicle and was the start of platform sharing between different manufactures. Originally intended to be Mercury, Ford decided tosell itunder the Lincolnname plate. Baby Lincolns are rare with 1949 being the only year of production, specificallythe 9EL series being the rarest of them all. The series had sunk-in or frenched headlights, circular taillights, and a frowning grill which speaks for itself. Ditching the V-12 that normally paired with Lincoln they introduced Fords new flathead V-8, the new engine had a displacement of 337 cubic inches. Also new was the corporate shift in all model lines to independent front suspension, semi-elliptic rear leaf springs, and open drive shafts. Lincoln continued the model line of the Cosmopolitan and Baby, but the Baby convertible would cease in production in 1949. This Baby is truly something special. It is truly hard to find a fault with this classic; both paint and body are in excellent condition. On the exterior, the chrome is in great shape with no signs of age or imperfections. The headlights fit tightly in their recessed hole; the chrome molding is in great condition too. However the optional fog lights are together with no cracks but they are currently inoperable, along with the windshield wipers. Recently finished with a high-quality base clear coat in stunning Alberta Blue, this Baby is in show condition, perfect for shows or impressing onlookers; there are no visible cracks or scratches in the finish. The body is extremely clean and straight with no evidence of damage repair, even the rear side skirts are straight as an arrow. Lincolns one year only tan power convertible top works as it should, it has been recently redone and looks fantasticwith absolutely no tears or discoloration. Also adding to the color scheme are the newer four ply Remington whitewall tires with very minor tread wear, with the Lincoln chrome dish wheel covers being in ideal shape as well. Taking a step inside, the same ultra clean theme continues, with most of the interior upholstery being recently recovered in the correct style and colors. The period correct dash board is fully functional with the original gauges still in place. Mechanically sound, this Lincoln cruises great. Fords flathead V-8 sounds great and has more than enough torque to cruise along modern traffic. The 3 speed manual transmission operates well with smooth shifts and solid clutch feel. All four drum brakes perform there function well and establishes confidence with the driver. As previously stated, new to Fords model line this Lincoln has independent front suspension and leaf-springs on the rear producing a truly luxury ride quality. Believed to be 1 of 550 Baby Lincoln Convertibles in existence, this car is truly something special. What are you waiting for?
