Lincoln made numerous changes to this generation that allowed it earn the respect and honor of being one of the most desirable classic American luxury cars. Of course the most well-known feature was the addition of the suicide doors; achieved by moving the rear door hinges from their traditional mounting points in front to the rear. While these doors added to the overall slab-side design, it was actually a case of function over form. Story goes, the engineers kept hitting their feet with the front hinged rear doors; thus they had the idea to change the hinge point allowing the engineers to exit without hitting their feet on the door. Our Powderblue Continental lives up the reputation that the 4th generation earned, optioned with the most desirable features. Working perfectly the bright dark blueconvertible top has no signs of any age; we suspect it was replaced recently with the original style material. Both the rear cowl and truck deck allow the top to fold away effortlessly, the dual reservoir hydraulic system has recently been restored with new seals and lines. By deleting the B pillar and the window frames, Lincoln helped continue the elegant body lines that are almost impossible to achieve with modern convertibles. Opening the suicide doors reveals a pristine interior, both bench seats are in great shape with no tears or discoloration. All gauges and switches look great and all work with the exception of the passengers rear window switch; the accenting chrome trim is also in great condition. The dash does have a crack on the top. The big-block 430 V-8 has more than enough power and brakes to allow the driver to have confidence in any situation. Mated with a Twin-Range Turbo-Drive automatic transmission it glides nicely into all three forward gears; low range is also available if in a difficult pulling situation. Finally the party piece is the 2nd passenger windscreen that was custom fitted by the original dealer and to our knowledge one-of-a-kind. With that addition this Continental has an elegant appearance that no other Continental has.
