It was one of the most successful cars with front wheel drive and designed by Andre Lefebvre and Flamino Bertoni in late 1933. "Traction Avant" is french for front wheel drive litterally meaning frontal traction. Using a longitudinal front wheel drive layout, the engine was set well within the wheelbase resulting in a very favorable weight distribution, aiding the cars advanced handling charectiristics. This revoloutionary car used an arc-welded monocoque frame, where mostcars of the era were based on a frame (chassis) onto which the body is was built. This type of frame resulted in a lighter vehicle now used in modern times. The suspension was very advanced for it's era as well. The front wheels were indepentantly sprung using a torsion bar and wishbone suspension arrangement. The rear suspension was a simple steel beam axle and a Panhard rod with unequal trailing arms to allow the two torsion bars to run parrellel to each other across the cars width. Since it was considerably lighter than "conventional" designs of the era, it was capable of 100 km/h (62 mph) and used only 10 litres of gasoline per 100 km (24 mpg). Due to its robust build, many enthusiast to this day still bring out their Traction Avant cars for exotic rally drives all across the globe. Finished in stunning dark midnight blue with a black top, it features an ascot gray interior. It has been beautifully preserved and maintained and is among less than a handful known to exist in the U.S. This particular Traction Avant features the long wheelbase with seating for 9 including driver. The three speed manual transmission features theselector coming out of the dash and Roman numerals indicating the gears. We have found this to be a very solid car with a recent paint job. It shows very nicely, but not considered to be Concours quality. The wheels were also painted and has newer tires all around. The horn, speedo, and fuel gauge are currently inoperable. The VIN is 428779 and the mileage shows 82,053. Be sure to check out the video on the MotoeXotica YouTube channel. What are you waiting for? GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!!
