Description

Tasteful '51 Mercury LeadSled! Many, many custom touches! Truly One-of-a-Kind! 355ci Small Block Chevy V8 Power! Turbo 400 Automatic Transmission! Custom Pinstriping Throughout! MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer yet another badass custom 1951 Mercury Leadsled. This car has tastefully married the timeless Mercury to the flair of the SoCal leadsled and it looks awesome! The body of the Mercury has been chopped 4.5" with a vertical drop and it looks great. The top was chopped by Dave Porter of Jefferson, Ohio back in 1989. Many of the body parts have come from various other donor cars which makes this Merc truly one-of-a-kind! The headlights have been frenched, the taillights are from a '59 Corvette, the side trim is from a '59 Pontiac, the front and rear bumpers are from a '51 Mercury with a '52 Kaiser overrider, the grill is from a '55 Chrysler with a '49 Mercury grill surround, 1950 Mercury rear window, the hood/trunk/door corners have all been rounded, the "B" post has been "laid" forward and the fender skirts are from a '51 Mercury . The hood is louvered with 148 louvers and looks great. The exterior door handles have been shaved. Overall, the body of this leadsled is in awesome shape and is sure to turn heads just about anywhere it may go! Finished in the GM color of Dark Garnet Red Poly, the paint looks excellent, showing only minor imperfections such as rock chips. The paint has been accented by custom, hand painted pink and blue pinstriping that really makes the paint pop! The car was painted by Jim's Rod Shop in Bangor, Michigan. The customization did not stop on the exterior of the car! The seats are finished in black and look great, showing only minor imperfection such as general wear from years of regular driving! The front seats are from a '74 Mark IV. The rear seat is ever so slightly and elegantly curved as you can see from the rear window. The rear seat is from a '75 Thunderbird. The interior was done by Jim's Trim in Bangor, Michigan. The door panels, carpet and headliner are in comparable condition. Both the front and rear vent windows on either side are functional and really help get air flowing through the cabin of the car! The dashboard is color matched to the exterior and has also been pinstriped. The pinstriping really makes the color of the body paint pop and it is spectacular! The dashboard houses a set of original looking Mercury gauges and a steering column out of a '64 Riviera. It should be noted that the speedometer and odometer are currently inoperable. There is also a small panel beneath the dash of four small gauges to help monitor engine conditions. This is truly a wild and wonderful Mercury! Under the hood, you'll find a 355 cubic inch small block Chevy mated to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Both the engine and transmission were freshened up so that they both run great. The transmission is shifted through the floor by means of a Lokar shifter. The engine bay is very clean and tidy with a small pod of gauges on the firewall as well as more pinstriping. This car is equipped with power steering and Vintage Air that cools by means of R-12. An aluminum radiator with electric fan help keep the engine cool and the engine breathes through means of a FlowMaster exhaust with Hush Power S/S mufflers that sound great! The Merc sits upon a 3.08 Posi rear end out of a '67 Nova. The car gets its leadsled stance by means of Fat Man Drop Spindles and Steer Arms in the front of the car and Posies Springs and L-Blocks in the rear. The Coker wide white wall tires really tie the entire look of this badass machine together. This car comes with a handful of photos of the before and during restoration process. This car is an excellent driver and would be a fun cruiser for just about anyone! The VIN is 51SL58586M. It is being sold on a clean and clear Michigan title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
