2007 Chrysler Crossfire
Two of the more intriguing products to emerge from the Daimler-Chrysler partnership era 20 years ago were the Chrysler Crossfire and the Plymouth Prowler. We have an example of the former one here at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. Which was produced under Mercedes Benz ownership at the time.
Finished in Red, this base model's paint and trim are in overall excellent condition with some clear coat missing on the front. The bodywork is straight and solid, the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the car. This car was made in Daimler's Osnabruck, Germany factory (VIN code X) in March 2007. This car is equipped with the rare and desirable 6-speed transmission.
This two-seater rolls on Yokohama radials, size 225/40R18 up front and 255/35R19 in back. Each tire is mounted to a 15-spoke alloy wheel. The tires are in very good order while the wheels are in good, original shape. The car rides on a 94.5-inch wheelbase and has a 15.9-gallon fuel tank.
Under the hood is a 3.2L SOHC 18-valve V-6 engine (code M112) breathing via dual center-mounted exhausts. All M112 engines have silicon/aluminum (Alusil) engine blocks with a 90° angle. The aluminum cylinder heads have three valves per cylinder. All use sequential fuel injection with two spark plugs per cylinder. All have forged steel connecting rods, a one-piece cast camshaft, iron-coated aluminum pistons and a magnesium intake manifold. To deal with the vibration problems of a 90-degree V-6, a balance shaft was installed in the engine block between the cylinder banks. This essentially eliminated first and second order vibration problems. A dual-length Variable Length Intake Manifold is fitted to optimize engine flexibility.
Backing this motor is a six-speed manual transmission (code NSG-370). Driver convenience features include dual-zone air-conditioning, a power recirculating ball steering system from the R170 platform, power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors and tilt steering Front suspension is unequal length (SLA) double wishbone suspension with five-point multi-link rear suspension.
Inside, the car features dark slate gray cloth bucket seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Base Crossfires featured matte black painted windshield frames, black filler plugs (in place of fog lights) in the front fascia and fabric seats with separate, movable headrests. The four-spoke steering wheel looks good, as does the black dashboard and inner door panels. The silver center console with a factory AM/FM stereo with a CD player and a console-mounted shift lever.
Chrysler executed the interior and exterior styling on the Crossfire. All other elements of the car such as wheelbase, track, engine, transmission, chassis structure and suspension components, are shared with the R170 platform. For example, the engine bay of the Crossfire is virtually identical to the Mercedes-Benz SLK320 on the R170 platform. The seats from the Mercedes-Benz SLK320 would bolt directly into the Crossfire chassis. The dashboard layout, controls, and instruments are also similar to those on the Mercedes-Benz SLK320.
Competition to this Crossfire in 2007 included Chevrolet's Cobalt SS Coupe, Infiniti's G35 Coupe, Mercedes-Benz's CLK350, Mitsubishi's Eclipse GT, Pontiac's G5 GT Coupe and Saturn's Ion Red Line Coupe.
Documentation includes the original owner's manual.
If you're looking for unique ride that is not quite a classic yet, we suggest this Crossfire should be on your shortlist. Its styling looks like nothing else on the road, then or now. There's plenty of room for you and a friend or a significant other to get away for a weekend, go on occasional cruises and if you brought it to a local car show, it might be the only one like it in attendance. Come on by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to take a peek!
