1989 Jeep Wagoneer

SOLD

Description

If you're looking for a run around truck that's really a SUV, then consider this '89 Jeep Wagoneer. This Jeep was made in American Motors' Toledo Ohio Plant No. 1. We are selling it for a local consignor who has owned this Jeep for the past 26 years. It was at 108k miles when they purchased it in 1989 and was used for antique shopping.

Finished in repainted Malibu Yellow with vinyl wood trim, the SUV's paint and trim are in satisfactory order. The original color can be seen in the door jambs. The bodywork is straight. The engine bay is mediocre and the chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body. The cargo area is in satisfactory shape. There is a rear window defogger as well as a wiper and washer system.

It rolls on Coker Classic tires, size 235/75R15 wide whitewall radials with full moon wheel covers. The tires and wheel covers are all in very good order. This Jeep rides a 101.4-inch wheelbase and has a 4,000 GVWR.

Under the hood is Jeep's 4.0L straight six-cylinder engine backed by a four-speed automatic transmission (code AW-4). Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks, power seat, tilt steering column and cruise control.

Inside, the SUV's Cordovan cloth and leather interior is in overall satisfactory condition showing some wear. The front bucket and rear bench seats echo this condition, complete with “Limited” embossed on the front seat backs and the back seat. The oil pressure gauge is inop and the key does not work on the door locks.

The carpet and headliner are satisfactory shape, while the three-spoke steering wheel looks great. The dashboard and inner door panels are all in very good order, as is the center console and its corresponding shift lever. There is some under body corrosion present, see photos. A Kenwood AM/FM stereo rests on the floor.

A variation on the Cherokee from 1983 until 1990 was the Jeep Wagoneer. These were unrelated to the similarly named full-sized Grand Wagoneer models that had carried the Wagoneer name before this point. The compact XJ Wagoneer was available initially in two trim levels: the “Wagoneer” and the “Wagoneer Limited” with the “base” Wagoneer version soon discontinued.

Both Wagoneers were distinguished from the Cherokee for the 1983 through 1985 model years by a slightly different grille and a smaller "Jeep" emblem offset to the driver's side. The single rectangular sealed beam headlamps were changed for 1986 to vertically stacked quad low- and high-beam headlights with front turn signal lights relocated behind the grille. Where the Cherokee tail lights were 50-percent split with a red section above an amber section, the tail lights on Wagoneers had a single red lens.

The Wagoneer Limited came with vinyl wood trim on the sides and cloth seats with leather bolsters. “Limited” was embossed on the front seat backs and in the center of the rear seat back. The standard equipment list was extensive and included air conditioning, cruise control, power disc brakes, rear window wiper and washer and adjustable steering wheel.

Competition to this Jeep in 1989 included Chevrolet's S-10 Blazer, Ford's Bronco II, GMC's S-15 Jimmy, Isuzu's new-for-1990 Rodeo, Nissan's Pathfinder and Toyota's 4Runner.
Documentation includes the original owner's manual and the original stereo owner's manual.
