1962 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible

Description

Looking for a classic Cadillac that is not a DeVille with two or four doors? The Series 62 trim was conceived as an end of the "fin" era. It was restored by a Walmart executive in the 90s and went to his son after his passing. We have photo documentation and restoration receipts for over $28k in 1990s money.

Made in General Motors' Detroit, Michigan assembly plant, this Cadillac droptop is dressed in Olympic White (code 10). The paint and trim are in overall excellent order. The car's bodywork is straight and solid. The chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body. The owners son had lovingly cared for this car since 2004 after his passing!

This big Caddy rolls on white stripe radial tires, size 235/75R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a Limited Edition wire wheel. The wheels are in very good order while the tires are in good, original condition.

Under the hood is a 390 CID OHV V-8 engine for motivation. Backing this motor is a Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission and some driver convenience features – power windows, power sideview mirrors and Guide-Matic headlight dimmer.

Inside, is a newer red interior. The front and rear bench seats are in fantastic shape and there are fold-down center armrests in front. Matching red carpeting is in similar condition. A two-spoke steering wheel is in very good order. The red instrument panel and inner door panels look fantastic, too. A column-mounted shifter and a Custom Sound AM/FM stereo round out the interior.

A mild face lift characterized Cadillac styling trends for 1962. A flatter grille with a thicker horizontal center bar and more delicate cross-hatched insert appeared. Ribbed chrome trim panel, seen ahead of the front wheel housings for 1961, were now replaced with standard cornering lamps and front fender model and series identification badges were eliminated.

A more massive front bumper end pieces appeared and housed rectangular parking lamps. At the rear tail lamps were now housed in vertical nacelles designed with an angled peak at the center. A vertically ribbed rear beauty panel appeared on the deck lid latch panel. Cadillac script also appeared on the lower left side of the radiator grille. The short-deck hardtop Town Sedan was moved from the Series 6300 to the Series 6200, being replaced by a short-deck Sedan de Ville Park Avenue in the Series 6300.

In addition, all short deck Cadillac models went from being six-window sedans for 1961 to four-window sedans for 1962 and 1963. Standard equipment included all of last year's equipment plus remote controlled outside rearview mirror, five tubeless black wall tires, heater and defroster and front cornering lamps. Cadillac refined the ride and quietness, with more insulation in the floor and behind the firewall.

Documentation includes the original owner's manual, various parts invoices, a Custom Auto Sound original manual, Caddy-Parts.com business cards, photos before and during the restoration and an album of more photos.

Competition to this convertible Cadillac in 1962 included: Buick's Invicta, Chrysler's 300, Dodge's Custom 880, Ford's Thunderbird, Imperial's Crown, Lincoln's Continental and Oldsmobile's 98.
