2009 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet 6-Speed

As the first decade of the new millennium wound down, Porsche continued moving forward. This 2009 911/997 Carrera Cabriolet is proof. It has previously lived in Illinois, Texas and California.

Made in Porsche's Stuttgart, Germany factory in August 2008, this example is dressed in Guards Red (code G1) with a contrasting black soft-top. The car's paint and trim are in overall excellent order, with only minor blemishes visible at close range. The front trunk is clean and tidy. The engine bay is very tidy and the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body.

This cabriolet rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 radials, size 235/40ZR18 in front and size 265/40ZR18 in back. Each one is mounted on a Carrera IV alloy wheel. Braking is handled by four-piston monoblock calipers over vented and cross-drilled discs.

Under the rear wing is a 3.6L flat, water-cooled, six-cylinder engine breathing via dual exhausts. It has direct fuel injection and VarioCamPlus variable valve timing. The oil was changed in July 2023 and passed an emissions inspection in December 2022. This motor is backed by a six-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include automatic climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors, keyless entry, heated power-adjustable front seats, PCM with navigation, headlight washers and cruise control.

Dual front airbags; anti-lock brakes; Porsche Stability Management; Bi-xenon headlights; LED taillights and brake lights; rain-sensing windshield wipers; and heated headlight washer nozzles. The car had its brake fluid replaced in August 2023.

Inside, the car's Sand Beige leather interior beckons. The heated and powered bucket seats look great, as does the rest of the matching interior – the dashboard, center console, inner door panels and carpets. Factory floormats line the footwells. Additional goodies include aluminum pedal covers, driver-seat memory settings, and Porsche Communication Management. The dashboard comes with a full array of gauges, including a 200-mph speedometer.

The 997 received a mid-cycle refresh in 2008 for the 2009 model year. The updated model range was unveiled at the Paris Auto Show in September 2008. The updated Porsche 911 (called 997 Gen II internally at Porsche and 997.2 informally by enthusiasts) included the following changes:

*New engine with direct fuel injection. The engine is mounted 0.4 inches lower in the tail section
*Revised suspension system
*Revised front bumper with larger air intakes
*Headlamps with LED daytime running lights and newly optional dual HID projectors
*Revised rear bumper with a new LED tail light design; AWD models included a reflective stripe between the tail lights
*Enlarged exterior mirrors
Redesigned Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE)
*Redesigned PCM system with touch-screen and optional hard-drive navigation and Bluetooth
*New Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission replacing the optional Tiptronic S

Cabriolet competitors to this Porsche in 2009 included Audi's S4, BMW's M Roadster, Infiniti's G37 Sport, Mercedes-Benz's SLK 350 and Nissan's 350Z Roadster.
