1964 Mercury Park Lane

SOLD

Description

Imagine yourself in this classic and all original Mercury now at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. In the mid-1960s, Mercury had to do battle with a myriad of foes – Buick, Oldsmobile, Dodge and Pontiac – in the wake of losing DeSoto and Edsel a few years earlier.

This Park Lane Coupe is a survivor of Ford's medium luxury division. It was made in Ford's Wayne, Michigan factory on January 8, 1964 then it was originally shipped to the Indianapolis, Indiana sales district. This example was a one-owner car until the 1990s, when the owner passed it to a friend of hers. The third and previous owners bought the car from us on October 13, 2005 with 25,329 miles on the clock. The husband passed away and in September 2023, this car returned to MotoeXotica Classic Cars.

Finished in Onyx (code A), this car's paint is mostly original though the front clip has been reshot at some point. The car was always garaged under the previous three owners. The paint and trim are in overall very good order, the bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is very tidy and the chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body.

As the highest-priced, premium trim, many Park Lanes (including this one) were fitted with the option of a “breezeway” retractable rear window that was first used on the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser and the 1958-1960 Lincoln Continental. For 1964, the retractable rear window was installed in hardtop sedans with a reverse-slant configuration as in previous versions.

The car has had the following parts replaced (year) – New firestone radial tires (2008) - fuel pump (2007); 390 Ford headers (2009); exhaust system work (2009); Holley carburetor (2011); battery (2021); taillight lens (2021); and air cleaner (2021). Original valve cover and misc. parts come with purchase.

This Park Lane rolls on Firestone FR380 white stripe radials, size 215/75R14 at all four corners. Each one is mounted to a steel wheel topped with full-size factory wheel covers. The wheels and tires are all in very good condition.

Under the counterbalanced hood is a 390 CID FE V-8 engine (code Z) with 300 horsepower and 427 lbs-feet of torque, 11:1 compression and dual exhausts. Backing this engine is a Merc-O-Matic C4 dual-range three-speed automatic transmission (code 4) and a 3.00:1 final drive (code 1). Driver convenience features include Select-Aire air-conditioning.

Inside, the car's Medium Silver Blue and Light Silver Blue Diamond Luster cloth and vinyl interior (code 61). The front and rear bench seats, carpet and headliner are all in near-excellent shape. The three-spoke steering wheel is in very good order, as are the instrument panel and inner door panels. A column-mounted shifter and a factory AM radio complete the interior. Even the interior courtesy lights still work!

For the 1964 model year, the Mercury Park Lane made its return as the Mercury Division expanded its model line. Coinciding with Mercury's 25th Anniversary, the Park Lane again topped the Mercury line above the Monterey and newly reintroduced Montclair. In contrast to the previous generation, the Park Lane used the same wheelbase as other Mercury lines, differing primarily in trim.

Extras include a custom fit car cover and documentation includes folder of miscellaneous service receipts.

Competition to this Mercury in 1964 included Buick's Electra 225, Riviera and Wildcat; Dodge's Polara 500; Oldsmobile's 98; and Pontiac's Bonneville.

This is a well-maintained, original vehicle that displays minimal wear. If you're partial to Ford's medium-priced division of classic automotive products, you owe it to yourself to check out this '64 Mercury Park Lane Hardtop Coupe at MotoeXotica Classic Cars! GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
