1990 Ferrari 348 TS CHALLENGE

SOLD

Description

We purchased this 1990 Ferrari 348ts (traversale spider) Challenge Race Car from its second owner here in Missouri. Mr George is an amazing gentleman who worked for Aerojet Rocketdyne as an engineer for the Apollo Moon launch, responsible for making sure all rockets had the same thrust and boost back in the day when Men were Men. When he had the opportunity to be one of the first civilians to purchase a Ferrari Race car, he jumped at the chance.

He purchased the car from the first owner (Mr Sheppard of Indianapolis, IN) in 1993 with only 3400 miles on the clock and drove the car sparingly before he had it modified by Lake Forrest Sports Cars, an authorized Ferrari Dealer highly familiar with the FNA Challenge Kit. He raced the car at numerous FNA Challenge races during the 1994, 1995 and 1996 Challenge Series's and had the car serviced and maintained by Lake Forrest over the years. The car finished in all its races. Mr George used the car occasionally from time to time for special events and rides in the countryside. It then sat dormant for the better part of a decade as a focal point of his collection.

When we acquired the car in 2023, it had sat idle for some time in his indoor showroom amongst his other prized possessions. We sent the car to Hedrick Motiv Werks in Osage Beach, MO, where they performed an extensive motor out major service at a cost of nearly $9000.00. They replaced the timing belt, blets, tensioner and idler pulleys, Checked and adjusted the Cam Valve lash, replaced the spark plugs, removed the injectors and had them ultrasonic tested, cleaned and flowed, replaced the air, fuel and oil filters and new oil (10w40 Mobil 1 synthetic). The transmission was drained, flushed and renewed. The Clutch was inspected and a new clutch master cylinder was installed. The brake pads were replaced, speedo sender unit was replaced. The engine was steam cleaned and the valve covers stripped and re-powder coated to new. A smaller race battery was replaced with a full size. Gas tank was cleaned out and both fuel pumps were replaced. Car was test driven for flaws and given a clean bill of health. Photo documentation and receipt in hand.

The engine used in the participating cars was similar to the road-going GT models with the only noticeable changes being the slick tires, new body kit, better brake-pads, roll-bar, smaller battery and seat belts.

This car's red paint and trim and livery are in overall excellent condition. The bodywork is straight and solid and the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body.

This car rolls on older Pirelli P0 tires, size 245-645-18 in front and 305-645-18 in back. Each one is mounted to a white Speedline alloy wheel. The wheels and tires are all in good, original order. Purchase include 2-extra speedline race wheels and 2-original 348 Ferrari wheels. Four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, new pads all around.

A racing open exhaust system was installed in the car along with the original, partial exhaust system included. Numerous original 348 interior parts are included with purchase, see attached photos. Original Ferrari leather bound owners manual, original window sticker ($109,500 MSRP) and warranty book, complete Leather bound Ferrari 348 tool kit, Agip fix a flat air canister, Original leather steering wheel, some Prancing Horse issues, numerous spares and original take off items are all included with purchase.

Amidships is a 3.4L DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine (code Tipo F199) mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Inside are OMP racing seats and a roll bar, original 348 leather seats are included with purchase.

This car finished all races, and at the end of the 1996 Challenge Season, this car was delivered to a Mr George in Springfield, Missouri, where it has been stored inside his home.
