Cadillac made the transition to the quad headlights easily in 1958, as evidenced by the Series 62 Convertible at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. This car underwent a complete, rotisserie restoration. This is one of 7,825 Cadillac Series 62 models made in 1958. It was loving cared for by the same Canadian owner for the past 50 years. He had the car resorted between 2016-2020 with new interior, top, new rubber, windshield, engine rebuild, and more with over $56,000.00 in receipts in hand.

Made in General Motors' Detroit, Michigan assembly factory, this Cadillac wears a red exterior that is in very good order overall with a beautiful Ivory power-folding convertible top (code 1). The bodywork is straight and solid, the chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body, the engine bay is very tidy and there is a full-size spare tire in the trunk, mounted on a red wheel. The undercarriage wears a coating of POR-15.

There are wide whitewall tires under the fenders, each one mounted on a steel wheel painted red and topped with a factory wheel cover. The wheel covers are in good, original order and the tires are in very good order.

Under the hood is a rebuilt V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor. The engine has a rebuilt Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission. Other rebuilt components include the rear differential, steering box, radio, quartz clock, brakes and suspension. All brake lines, wiring and rubber parts were replaced. An electric pump replaced the original mechanical fuel pump. Driver convenience features include power steering, power brakes, power windows (code X), foglamps, power antenna, E-Z Eye Glass (code E), heater (code H) and six-way power seats (code Y).

Inside is a white-and-red leather interior that is in very good order overall. The front seat with a center, fold-down armrest and the rear bench seats look good, as does the red carpeting. The two-spoke steering wheel is in fine form, as is the red-over-white dashboard and inner door panels. A column-mounted shift lever and a factory AM radio round out the interior.

Engine was rebuilt with new head gasket, sleeved with new pistons and rods, new valves, intake and exhaust, lifters, timing chain, cams, oil pump and more.

For 1958, there was a new grille featuring multiple round “cleats” at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical members. The grille insert was wider and new bumper guards were positioned lower to the parking lamps. New dual headlamps were used and small chrome fins decorated the front fenders. Tailfins were less pronounced and trim attachments were revised. The word Cadillac appeared in block letters on the fins of base models. On the sides of the car were five longer horizontal wind splits ahead of the unskirted rear wheel housing and front fender horizontal moldings with crests placed above the trailing edge and no rocker sill trim. The convertible and the De Villes used solid metal trim on the lower half of the conical projection flares, while other models had a thin ridge molding in the same location.

On Series 62 Eldorados, a V-shaped ornament and model identification script were mounted to the deck lid. Series 62 Eldorados also had ten vertical chevron slashes ahead of the open rear wheel housings and crest medallions on the flank of the tailfins. Broad, sculptured beauty panels decorated the lower rear quarters on all Series 62 Eldorados and extended around the wheel opening to stretch along the body sills. Standard equipment on all Series 62s was the same as the previous year. All new was an extended deck Series 62 sedan which, along with the Series 62 Sedan deVille, stretched 8.5 inches longer than the regular four-door Series 62, and a special-order Series 62 Eldorado Seville of which only one was actually built. Excluding export sedans and chassis only, the Series 62 offered an all-time record of nine bodystyles this year. The infamous Cadillac Air-Suspension was optional.

Competition to this Cadillac in 1958 included Buick's Series 60 Century Convertible, DeSoto's Fireflite Convertible, Edsel's Citation, Imperial's Crown Convertible and Oldsmobile's 98 Convertible.
