2007 Porsche 911 Coupe

Description

Sleek. Slinky. Iconic. All of these terms apply to Porsche's 911-997, especially when it is black.

Dressed in black (code 041) from the factory in Stuttgart, Germany, where it was made in October 2006, the paint and trim on this one-owner car are in overall excellent condition. The bodywork is straight and solid and the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body with minor stone chips, touched up on front. The rear access to the engine bay is tidy and the deep well in the front trunk or frunk is in similar condition. We purchased this fine Porsche from a local enthusiast who purchased the car in 2020 with only 39,xxx miles, current mileage at 46,810, less than 7,000 miles and always garaged.

This 911 rolls on relatively new Michelin Pilot Sport radials, size 235/40ZR18 in front and 265/40ZR18 in back. Each one is mounted on five-spoke alloy wheels. The wheels and tires are all in very good order; the car has new front brake pads and cross-drilled brake rotors. We have a recent service receipt from 3/2022 for $4,182 from Porsche of St.Louis for brake flush, font disc & pads and 4 new tires at mileage 44,457, current mileage at just 46,810.

Out back is a 3.6L flat, air-cooled DOHC 24-valve six-cylinder engine that generates 321 horsepower! It is backed by a six-speed manual transmission. Creature comforts as expected, are lengthy – electronic climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, cruise control, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors and power seats. Other goodies include a sunroof and a speed-activated rear wing. When cold, the wing deploys around 75 mph and retracts at 37.5 mph. When the engine is warm, the wing rises at about 50 mph and snugs up to the body at 19 mph.

Safety equipment includes dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes.

Inside, the black terracotta interior is entirely in very good order. The front buckets and rear demi-buckets are all fine shape, as is the matching carpet and headliner. The three-spoke steering wheel, black instrument panel and inner door panels are in very good condition, as are the center console and factory infotainment system.

By February 1999, just a few months into the 997 development program that began in the fourth quarter of 1998, designers were already at work on the 997 body design. After numerous reviews during the rest of 1999 and full size clay models built from 2000 into 2001, a final design by designer Grant Larson was approved. Early prototypes were built in late 2001 for testing, based on the newly set parameters. While the exterior styling was revised, it was again more evolution rather than revolution. The rear bodywork was a total of 3.5 inches wider than its predecessor. However, the most notable aesthetic difference between the 997 and the 996 was the return to oval headlights like those of pre-996 Carreras, with separate indicator units. The interior was re-designed with new controls; however, it was more reminiscent of classic 911 interiors than of the outgoing 996. The body in general remained low profile with a drag coefficient of 0.28 for the Carrera and 0.29 for the Carrera S.

The 997 was an evolution of the preceding 996, with the most significant changes being interior and exterior styling, the most notable being the replacement of the “fried egg” headlamps used on the 996 with the classic “bug eye” units. Larger 18-inch wheels were fitted as standard and other engineering changes include slightly increased power; however, the car is technically very similar to its predecessor.

Competition to this Porsche in 2007 included: Aston Martin's DB9, the Avanti coupe, Chevrolet's Corvette, Infiniti's G35, Jaguar's XKR, Lotus' Exige and Nissan's 350Z.

If you hanker for a modern sports car with a classic shape and a famous pedigree, this Porsche 911-997 more than fills the bill. Visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check it out.
