“Once upon a time, there were three little girls who went to the police academy…” If you're over 50, you may remember that line uttered by John Forsythe, portraying the never-seen Charlie Townsend, the owner of the Townsend Detective Agency and boss of his Angels – Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett (for a time) and Jaclyn Smith.

What does all that have to do with this 1977 Mustang II Ghia? The previous owner listed it as reportedly driven by Smith during the series, which ran on ABC-TV from 1976 to 1981.

“The Mustang II's attractive all-new styling was influenced by coachbuilder Ghia of Italy, which had recently been acquired by Ford,” said automotive journalist Bill Vance. “It carried through the long-hood, short-deck theme of the original, and as Iacocca requested, it came as a notchback and hatch-equipped fastback."

Ford brochures suggested that the luxury-trim Ghia model, with its formal roofline, stylish exterior and plush interior should be thought of as resembling the popular personal luxury category of the time. For 1975, there was a Ghia Luxury Group option, with more colors available in its plush velour interiors, exterior accents and landau roofs. For the 1977 model year, Ford introduced a "Sports Appearance Group" for the Ghia model that was color-matched to either black or tan paint.

This car was built in Ford's Dearborn, Michigan (VIN code F) factory on November 17, 1976, and was originally shipped to the Denver, Colorado delivery zone. It was put into service on January 17, 1977 and was sold as a used car at a Denver Chevrolet dealer on June 17, 1978.

Dressed in Tan, (code 8H), the car's paint and trim are in overall very good condition, including the Odense, black half-vinyl roof (code NA). The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy and the car's body-colored Endura bumpers fit tightly to the body. There's also a trunk-mounted luggage rack.

This Mustang rolls on blackwall radials. Each tire is mounted on body-colored lace-pattern alloy wheels. The wheels are in very good order.

Under the hood is 302 CID V-8 (VIN code F), backed by a C-4 three-speed automatic transmission (code W) with a 3.00:1 rear end (code 6). Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering and power brakes.

Inside, the Chamois interior (code LT) with black trim, is in overall satisfactory order, including the front buckets and rear bench seat. The matching carpet is in similar condition, as are the inner door panels and dashboard, which has a brushed aluminum backsplash for the gauges. The black, three-spoke steering wheel is in decent order. A console-mounted shift lever is in place and there's a factory AM/FM radio with an aftermarket RCA 8-track player to round out the interior. A/C compressor engages, blower fan is inop.

Documentation includes the original owner's manual, a binder of assorted documents, the original buyer's order and invoice, an RCA guide for an 8-track player.

Coupe competition to this Mustang II in 1977 included Buick's Skyhawk Coupe, Chevrolet's Vega Cabriolet and Monza Towne Coupe, Datsun's 210 hatchback, Ford's own Maverick and Pinto coupes and Pinto hatch, Honda's Civic hatchback, Mercury's Bobcat and Capri II, Oldsmobile's Firenza Coupe SX, Pontiac's Sunbird Formula Coupe, Toyota's Corolla Coupe and Volkswagen's Sirocco.

Regardless of whether Kelly Garrett piloted this car on the set of Charlie's Angels, this is a great classic Mustang II Ghia that needs a good home. Come by and check out this Mustang II today at MotoeXotica Classic Cars to take a look at this survivor.
