2011 Cadillac CTS-4 Premium Sedan

Twenty years ago, Cadillac braved re-entering the compact luxury car market with the CTS, hoping to exorcise any remaining stigma from the Cadillac Cimmaron of the 1980s.

This example was made in General Motors' Lansing, Michigan factory in March 2011. Dressed in White Diamond Tricoat (code GBN), this car's paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The bodywork is straight and solid, the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body. The engine bay is tidy.

This car rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport NS3 radials, size 245/45ZR19 at all four corners. Each one is mounted to a nine-spoke factory alloy wheel. The wheels and tires are in satisfactory condition.

Under the counterbalanced hood is a 3.6L DOHC 24-valve V-6 engine (code LLT) with variable valve timing (VVT) and direction fuel injection (DI). This engine makes 304 horsepower and 273 lbs-ft of torque. Backing this motor is a Hydramatic six-speed automatic transmission (code 6L50) and a 3.23:1 rear end. As expected in a Cadillac, creature comforts are plentiful. Electronic dual-zone climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power locks, power and heated sideview mirrors, power and heated front seats, cruise control, power trunk release, cabin air filtration system, rear window defroster, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a navigation system with real-time traffic and weather data and OnStar. There is also an UltraView panoramic sunroof with power sunshade.

Safety equipment on this car includes dual-stage and dual-depth front airbags, anti-lock brakes, driver and right-front passenger side impact plus front and rear outboard head curtain airbags, daytime running lights, Stabilitrak ESC, child seat restraint system, child security rear door locks, tire pressure monitoring system, on-board navigation, remote starting and swiveling headlights.

Inside, the car is upholstered in complementary Cashmere and Cocoa (code AFE). The Cashmere leather seats are in excellent shape, along with the Cashmere carpeting. The Cashmere headliner is in very good order. A three-spoke steering wheel with a leather-wrapped rim and Sapele Wood trim, looks great and is ready for use. The Cashmere and Cocoa inner door panels and Cocoa over Cashmere instrument panel are all in excellent condition. The center stack with Driver Information Center and console have silver trim pieces, there's a console-mounted shift lever and a factory Delco-Bose infotainment center with a 40-gigabyte hard drive complete the interior.

The second generation CTS was wider and longer than the original, measuring 191.6 inches long, 72.5 inches wide and 58 inches in height. Wheelbase remained unchanged at 113.4 inches but with a wider front/rear track of 61.8/62.0 inches, donated by the larger STS. Other changes included a revamped exterior, with a new, larger grille, slimmer headlights and taillights, side air extractor vents located forward of the front doors and new nine-spoke 18-inch wheels, surrounding larger high-performance brake calipers and rotors. Available features on the second-gen CTS included a Bose 5.1 surround sound system, GM's Stabilitrak ESC system, a tire pressure monitoring system, a navigation system with real-time traffic and weather data, an integrated 40 GB hard drive for music storage, swiveling headlights, and remote starting.

Competition to this Cadillac in 2011 included: Audi's A6, BMW's 535i, Buick's Lacrosse CXL AWD, Chrysler's 300 Limited, Hyundai's Genesis, Infiniti's M37x, Jaguar's XF, Lexus' GS350 AWD and Mercedes-Benz's E 350 4Matic.
