1962 Cadillac Series 62 Two-door Hardtop Only two-owner car, overall original and well cared for Cadillac One of only 16,633 Series 62 two-door hardtops made in 1962 Correct Olympic White exterior (code 12) and Cromwell Green Cloth and green coated fabric interior (code 37) 390 CID OHV V-8 engine Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission Power steering, power brakes, power windows and two-way power seats Nice and tidy original undercarriage Looking for a relatively inexpensive ticket into the classic car universe? As one of Americas most sought after brands, this Cadillac Series 62 might just be it. This is only a two-owner car and its condition really supports the great ownership over the past decades. A businessman from St. Louis, Missouri was the original owner. The second owner kept it garaged for 99 percent of the time; he and his family lovingly took care of it for about 35 years. Nineteen sixty-two marked the styling midpoint between the outlandish 1959 Cadillac models and finless 1965 models. This example was made in Cadillacs Detroit, Michigan factory during the fourth week of June 1962. According to the second owner, everything is all original (except paint): carpet, interior, headliner, engine and drivetrain, etc. The Olympic White paint (code 10) and trim look very good and the body is straight and solid. The engine bay is extremely tidy while the trunk interior is in great overall original shape. The second owner had the following new parts installed: upper/lower control arm bushings, shocks, front bumper ends and a turn signal bezel and casing. The heater core has been rebuilt and newer tires were installed. The only things that don't work properly, reportedly, are the windshield wipers. The chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body and look great. This Cadillac rolls on whitewall radials, size 235/75R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a steel wheel topped by a factory wheel cover. The tires and wheels are all in very good order. Under the hood is a 390 CID OHV V-8 engine. This motor is backed by a Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include power steering, power brakes, power windows and two-way power seats. Inside, the Cromwell Green Cloth interior (code 37) is in overall very good order. The front and rear bench seats also feature coated green fabric. A two-spoke steering wheel faces the driver, the headliner is in satisfactory order, as are the inner door panels while the instrument panel is in very good order but the wiper are inoperable. A factory AM radio completes the interior. A mild facelift characterized Cadillac styling trends for 1962. A flatter grille with a thicker horizontal center bar and more delicate cross-hatched insert appeared. Ribbed chrome trim panel, seen ahead of the front wheel housings in 1961, were now replaced with cornering lamps and front fender model and series identification badges were eliminated. More massive front bumper end pieces appeared and housed rectangular parking lamps. At the rear tail lamps were now housed in vertical nacelles designed with an angled peak at the center. A vertically ribbed rear beauty panel appeared on the deck lid latch panel. Cadillac script also appeared on the lower left side of the radiator grille. The short-deck hardtop Town Sedan was moved from the DeVille series to the Series 6200, being replaced by a short-deck Park Avenue. In addition, all short deck Cadillac models went from being six-window sedans in 1961 to four-window sedans in 1962 and 1963. Standard equipment included all of last year's equipment plus remote controlled outside rearview mirror, five tubeless black wall tires, heater and defroster and front cornering lamps. Cadillac refined the ride and quietness, with more insulation in the floor and behind the firewall. Competition to this Cadillac in 1962 included Buicks Electra 225 Sport Coupe, Chryslers 300 Sport and Imperials Southampton. This car is a real good-looking early 60s Cadillac and a good and fun driver. As we noted above, this would be an excellent opportunity to get into the classic car arena with a solid big Cadillac that can still turn heads. Even though its not a Coupe de Ville, many people would think it is. Visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars today and check out this Cadillac for yourself. VIN: 62G145586?
