This Eldorado is finished is gorgeous and stunning Madeira Plum Firemist which was a color only offered in 1968. This particular Caddiliac was also fitted with the bucket seat option, which was very rare at only 1-2% of the annual Eldorado production. Cadillacs had become the Standard of the World by the 1960s but if there was one Cadillac that made even other Cadillac owners notice, it was Cadillacs Eldorado. The Eldorado underwent subtle changes for a 1968 facelift including a restyled hood cutline to accommodate hidden windshield wipers, the addition of rear side marker lamps embossed with the Cadillac wreath, and relocation of the front turn signals to the outer edges of the grille. Dressed in correct Madeira Plum Firemist, the cars paint (code 98) and trim are in overall excellent order. Paired with the plum is a contrasting Sandalwood Cross-grain Padded Vinyl Roof (code 5). The contrast is eye catching and the paint was a special order. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy and the Deka battery appears new. The cars chrome bumpers are in very good order. This Caddy rolls on American Classic wide whitewall tires, size 235/75R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a steel wheel topped by a factory wheel cover. All of the tires and wheel covers are in excellent order and complement the paint color so wonderfully! Under that big, wide hood is a 472 CID V-8 engine, which was new for 1968. It makes 375 horsepower and 525 lbs-feet of torque. The new engine incorporated emission control into the overall design, as well as allowing accessories to bolt directly to the block itself, instead of being suspended by brackets. This was done to reduce noise and vibration. The new V-8 underwent over two million miles of testing before being put into production, which Cadillac boasted as proof of its durability and strength. The engine is connected to a Turbo Hydramatic 425 three-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, variable-ratio power steering, power brakes with new-for-68 front discs, power windows, power front seats and remote drivers sideview mirror control. Inside the car, the Sandalwood leather upholstery (code 482) on the front buckets and rear bench is in overall great shape. A tan carpet is in good, original order, as is a neutral headliner. The brown instrument panel padding was beefed up and interior controls and hardware were redesigned to lessen the chance of injury during an accident. A brown three-spoke steering wheel is in very good shape and the inner door panels are in similar order. The Sandalwood-colored center console, column-mounted shift lever help complete the interior, along with a factory AM radio. In addition to the exterior appearance changes made to incorporate new safety mandates, the 1968 Eldorado received a new hood, which was 4.5 inches longer than the 1967 hood. At the rear edge of the new hood, an opening was provided to conceal the windshield wipers when they were parked, which cleaned up the cowl area. A hand-written maintenance record from a previous owner indicates the car had an oil and filter change and lube job on March 1, 2016 at 71,963 miles and another oil and filter change plus a rebuilt power steering pump, a new A.I.R. pump, fan belts and radiator hoses on June 20, 2017 at 72,600 miles. The cruise control and headlight doors are inoperable. New standard features for 1968 included power rear quarter venti-panes, which eliminated the somewhat unusual situation in 1967 of having power windows up front, with manual windows in the rear. Power front disc brakes were a much-needed improvement and all Eldorados received them for 1968. Competition to this Cadillac in 1968 included American Motors Ambassador, Buicks Riviera, Chryslers New Yorker, Fords Thunderbird, Lincolns Continental Mark III, Oldsmobiles Toronado and Pontiacs Executive Coupe.
