Description

The Packard Clipper was initially a single model of the Packard Motor Car Company introduced in April, 1941, midyear, much as was the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang and other new departures. It was manufactured between 1942 and 1947, from the six and junior eight, to the Super-8, where it cost more than and outperformed corresponding Cadillacs. The Clipper name alone was reintroduced in 1953 for the Company's bottom line through 1956, in which final year it was considered a standalone make, and not a model of Packard. The Clipper's historical importance lies in its timing and the result that timing had on subsequent decisions which so crucially affected Packard's later years. In these events, we can see that the Clipper represented a continuum: Packard's timeless styling hallmarks combined with the modern envelope body was as effective a mating of the old and the new as anyone could point to in American automobile history. Management abandoned that continuum in a decision that almost immediately affected the Packard image, inflicting a wound that would prove terminal by the mid-1950s, yet its decision was not at all extraordinary or unexpected at the time.MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the unique 1947 Packard Clipper Sedan you see pictured. The gentleman we are selling this Packard for cosmetically and mechanically restored it in approximately 2003. It is sure to draw attention anywhere you drive the car!Finished in a shade of bright yellow, the paint is in good condition, showing only minor rock chips to the front of the vehicle, which is typical of a car that has been regularly driven. There are a few small bubbles on the lower doors with a little bit of rust on the inner rockers. The chrome is in good condition, showing only minor pitting. The chrome trim running along the side of the car is accented with a complimenting purple color. Both the front and rear bumper appear to be painted and are also in good shape. Each side of the car has a black and purple custom vinyl graphic to accent the exterior. There is an exterior sun visor on the car to keep the sun out of your eyes while you're out cruising. The passenger side window is cracked. Inside, you'll find that the interior has been reupholstered and is new. The seats are wrapped in tan, textured cloth and it looks great, showing no signs of wear or tear. The brown carpet, tan headliner and tan door panels are also in great condition. The dashboard appears to be mostly original, housing original gauges. There is a set of aftermarket ProSource gauges beneath the dashboard that monitors the engine temperature, oil pressure and amps. During the restoration, the engine was upgraded to a 383 stroker V8 with an automatic 350 Turbo transmission attached. The engine has a 4.72 camshaft. The Packard sits upon a Chevrolet rear end and a set of new 15" Eagle Alloy wheels wrapped in new P205/75R15 tires. The drum brakes remain stock. The VIN is 211220319 and the mileage currently shows 71,754. It is being sold on a clean and clear title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
