Description

A dramatic redesign of the Corvair came in 1965. The new body showed influence from the Corvette Stingray and the 1963 Buick Riviera. The mild coke bottle styling set the trend for GM cars for the next fifteen years, foreshadowing the 1967 Camaro. For the first time, none of the passenger cars had a "B" pillar, making all closed models true hardtops. The second generation's styling was rated timeless when new, and considered contemporary today in comparison to the first generation. A new fully independent suspension, similar in design to the Corvette, replaced the original swing axle rear suspension. However, the Corvair used coil springs at each wheel instead of the 'Vette's single transverse leaf spring unit.MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the gorgeous 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza you see pictured. This particular car has benefitted from a mild and tasteful restoration in the recent past and has only 58,000 original miles. This Corvair is definitely a headturner and is in pristine condition! The seats are wrapped in blue cloth and show zero wear or imperfections. The door panels & carpet are also in excellent condition. The dashboard still appears to look original, housing all original style gauges. One special quality about the Chevrolet Corvair is that the engine is rear mounted. This particular car has the "140" engine which is a quad carb, 164 cubic inch Flat-6 engine. The engine has been reborn and only has 2700 miles since the rebuild. The engine is capable of 140 horsepower and has been bored .060 along with some cylinder head and carburetor work. Attached to the engine is a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. When the engine was rebuilt, true forged pistons were used, Otto balanced cam installed, heads were redone by Warren Leveque, staked valve seats, lightened pushrods & rockers were installed. The Headers by Clark were installed along with a Crown electronic ignition. The Corvair you see here is an exceptional example of GM's only rear-engine model ever made.
