Studebaker Corporation was a United States wagon and automobile manufacturer based in South Bend, Indiana. Founded in 1852 and incorporated in 1868 under the name of the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company, the company was originally a producer of wagons for farmers, miners, and the military.Studebaker entered the automotive business in 1902 with electric vehicles and in 1904 with gasoline vehicles, all sold under the name "Studebaker Automobile Company". Until 1911, its automotive division operated in partnership with the Garford Company of Elyria, Ohio and after 1909 with the E-M-F Company. The first gasoline automobiles to be fully manufactured by Studebaker were marketed in August 1912. Over the next 50 years, the company established an enviable reputation for quality and reliability. The South Bend plant ceased production on December 20, 1963, and the last Studebaker automobile rolled off the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada assembly line on March 16, 1966.MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the 1949 Studebaker Pickup you see pictured. This is a completely original, un-restored and unmolested vintage truck with a power dump bed! The body is in fantastic condition to be a 64 year old original pickup. The power dump bed is still functional; however the lines tend to leak from age. All of the glass and other trim components are still intact as well. Inside, you'll find that the interior is simple and original. The factory original brown vinyl seats do have signs of wear and tear, including a tear across the driver's side. The dashboard is original and houses all of the original gauges. Under the hood, you'll find the original 171 cubic inch Inline Six Flathead engine with a 4-speed manual transmission attached. Many components have recently been rebuilt or replaced to keep the truck in good running condition such as new plugs, all new fluids & filters, fuel tank has been boiled, sealed and has a new replacement sending unit, rebuilt brakes and master cylinder and new oil pan gasket.
