Description

The Jaguar Mark 1 is a saloon car produced by Jaguar between 1955 and 1959. Referred to in contemporary company documentation as the Jaguar 2.4-litre and Jaguar 3.4-litre, the word "Saloon" was often added. The designation "Mark 1" was included retrospectively upon its replacement by the Mark 2 in October 1959. The 2.4-litre was the company's first small saloon since the demise of its 11/2 and 21/2 Litre cars in 1949, and was an immediate success, easily outselling the larger Jaguar saloons.MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the exquisite 1958 Jaguar Mark 1 you see pictured. The car you see here has been tastefully restored both inside and out. This true California Jaguar has been built to be an excellent driver, starts the first time, every time and is a serious attention grabber! The car even has a stack of receipts, the rare and complete original tool kit and original jack!Finished in a custom two tone paint job, the black and silver paint is in excellent condition and only shows very minor imperfections. The body is straight, solid and we're hard pressed to find imperfections. Most of the chrome on the car has been replaced, including both the front and rear bumpers, license plate light housing and emblems, which all looks incredible. The Lucas PL head lamps are new and house halogen bulbs and look great. All four wind wing rubber seals have been replaced. This car is absolutely incredible and nearly breathtaking! The entire interior of the car has been reupholstered in custom upholstery. All the seats are wrapped in full Italian leather with black piping including leather door panels. The headliner has been finished in beautiful cream colored suede that looks impeccable. The carpet is also new and looks great! The dashboard is in excellent shape and houses all functional gauges. Both the tachometer and fuel gauges were rebuilt. Even the low fuel light works! Under the hood, you'll find that the engine has been upgraded to the 4.2L Jaguar with HD-8 carburetors and completely rebuilt. Not an expense was spared when it came to rebuilding the engine, everything has been replaced with new components and even the crankshaft was reground and balanced. The engine block has been repainted in the correct "original" avocado green color. The engine rebuild was completed by Motor Works of National City, California for over $3,000! The HD-8 carbs, distributor and radiator have been rebuilt and the radiator has also been pressure tested. The generator has been converted to alternator to ensure reliable charging. The exhaust manifolds were refinished in Black Porcelain with brass nuts, washers, new gaskets and a complete new exhaust system. A new SU fuel pump has been installed with a kill switch and the gas tank has been cleaned, sealed and a rebuilt sending unit has been installed. This engine has really been given a face lift and is definitely a reliable, turnkey car for those Sunday morning cruises or if you have a sense of adventure, drive the car cross country!Attached to the engine is the original 4-speed manual transmission, which has had the Laycock De Normanville overdrive removed, cleaned and checked out. This Jaguar also has a new clutch and throw out bearing, new universal joints, motor mounts and four new shocks. The Mark 1 sits upon powdercoated wheels with new, genuine white wall tires. Even the spare has been powder coated and had a new white wall installed! The Jaguar has four wheel disc brakes that have been rebuilt and include new calipers and pads. Both the brake and clutch master cylinders are new and the clutch has a new slave cylinder. This magnificent Jaguar is ready for the road and ready to go anywhere your heart desires! As mentioned before, the Jaguar still holds onto its original tool kit, which is very rare, especially as a complete set. The original tool case has been powder coated in gloss black. The original jack is also included. Also included is a binder full of 1958 Jaguar articles, vintage Jaguar ads, photos during the restoration and a massive stack of receipts! This is a true California Jaguar and would fit perfectly into any car collection or with any Jaguar enthusiast. The VIN is S989081DN and the mileage currently shows XXX.
