The Corvette Nomad was a 1954 proto-type that debuted at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for General Motors Motorama. It has been called the WALDORF ever since. It was such a huge success that some of the unique features were applied to a Chevrolet Belair two-door station wagon and it was put into production as a Nomad in 1955. All of the 8,530 bodies were made at the Cleveland plant and shipped to the Flint, Baltimore, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Jamestown, Tarrytown, Atlanta, Kansas City, Oakland, Willow Run, and Norwood plants to be assembled. The 1957 models received no special trim. All interior and exterior trim are interchangeable with other Bel Air models. Even though there were fewer 1957 Nomads produced, and it had no special trim, it is arguably the most popular with collectors today. Of the 6,534 Nomads produced in 1957, this car is one of the finest in existence today. With a correct, OEM interior recently installed, A/C, power steering, power disc brakes, new glass and 350 V8 engine the car is a joy to drive. The 1957 Nomad you see here is an incredible example of the classic Chevrolet two door station wagon. This car has been meticulously maintained by the current owner and is a really special car. The paint is in very good shape with only minor imperfections. The paint shines and sparkles like a deep red ruby! Just like in the fashion of the 50s, there is no shortage of chrome on this '57. The chrome looks great and only has minor imperfections. Inside, you will find that the interior looks nearly impeccable. Finished in black vinyl, the seats show no signs of wear. To add just a touch of timeless Chevrolet, the seats and door panels have been embroidered with a red Chevy Bow-Tie that compliments the car great. The door panels, headliner and carpet are all in awesome shape as well. The headliner bows have been replaced with stainless bows which look great. The dash board has been brought back to life and looks great with original gauges. All the gauges are in excellent working order. This Nomad does come equipped with a Vintage Air unit for the heat & cold A/C. Under the hood, you will find an extremely clean 350 crate engine that not only looks great in between the engine bay walls, but sounds excellent. Attached is a 700R 4-speed automatic transmission that shifts smoothly. The rear end houses 3.23 gears which gives this Nomad nearly 19mpg! This Nomad comes equipped with power brakes and a power steering rack, making braking and turning very easy. The classic wire wheels are wrapped in radial tires which are in excellent condition.
