Description

The Great Depression slowed sales temporarily for Pontiac but the company soon rebounded, partly due to their new straight-eight engine. The bodies were designed by Franklin Q. Hershey who was a former employee of the Murphy Auto Body Company. His resume included such prestigious names as Peerless. By 1935, the Pontiac Motor Company was selling over four times the number of vehicles they had soled in 1933.The 1935 Pontiacs were positioned to sell near the entry-level price. Under the hood was a new six-cylinder engine that was potent, smooth, and reliable. The design was elegant but stylish with its 'waterfall grille' and all-steel 'turret top'. For 1936, the vehicles remained mostly unchanged. The economy model was the Master Six and was deprived of the 'knee action' front suspension that could be found on the more expensive models such as the Deluxe Six and Deluxe eight. For 1936 Pontiac produced 176,270 vehicles and was ranked sixth in total US automobile sales. The car you see here is a '36 Pontiac Master Silver Streak which has benefitted from a wonderful restoration. With only 500 miles since the restoration, the car has been nicely broken in and drives wonderfully. Finished in Sand Dune Cream with correct Taupe interior, the car is stunning from top to bottom. The paint on the car shows only some very imperfections. The most notable and common are some scrapes to the front fenders from the hood coming down and scraping it. There has been a red pin stripe added around the car as well as to the bumpers. The beautiful waterfall grill looks great as does the rest of the chrome and stainless pieces on the car. They have all been removed during the restoration and professionally polished to a near show finish. All of the glass is in great condition and was replaced during the restoration along with the rubber. Inside, the correct Taupe interior looks great and is finished in the original pattern and material. The seats have been reupholstered as well as the door panels, headliner and kick panels. The headliner is also new. All of the wood has been refinished inside and looks nearly perfect. From the dash to all of the window surrounds, the interior looks great. Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder runs great and looks just as good. The motor has been nicely painted and detailed and runs very smooth. Connected to the three speed manual transmission, the car is a joy to drive. The clutch is strong and the car shifts with no known problems. The Pontiac wheels are painted red and covered with correct hubcaps and beauty rings which look great and show just a few minor dings. The wide white wall bias ply tires are all new and in great condition. The underside is solid as well as the trunk which includes a full size bias ply spare. The miles currently show 3,315 and the VIN number is 6BB26903.
