Description

In Spring of 1962 Chevrolet really committed itself to the sporty image they had created for the Corvair by finally introducing a Convertible version and then offering a high performance 150 hp turbocharged "Spyder" option for Monza coupes and convertibles. This made the Corvair the first production automobile to come with a turbocharger as a factory option. The 1963 model year saw the optional availability of a long 3.08 gear for improved fuel economy, but the Corvair otherwise remained largely carryover with minor trim and engineering changes. Self adjusting brakes were new for 1963. The Monza line was really proving its worth. Of all the Corvairs sold in 1963 nearly 80% were Monzas. Of those 80%, convertibles accounted for only 20% of all the Monzas sold. The car you can see here is just that. It came equipped with a turbocharged, rear-mounted, air cooled, flat, 6 cylinder engine, capable of producing 150 horsepower and 134lbs of torque. It boasts a 4 speed manual transmission. This particular vehicle has been repainted a beautiful Ember Red when the car went under a through restoration about five years ago. The paint is in good condition, still shines but has a few minor wear marks. This particular Corvair has a solid body with no rot and good looking paint with evidence of just minor wear over the years. The white convertible top is in overall good shape with regular, minor wear. The back window plastic has a crack. The entire vehicle's rubber appears to be original and all four tires are older radials in good condition with decent tread and no dry rot. The front bumper has been re-chromed and has a good shine to it. The rear bumper looks to be original with minor pitting and scratches from over its life. When you look into this car, you will see that most of the interior is still original and in good shape. The carpet and door panels have been replaced and look great. The front seats have been reupholstered and boast functioning seatbelts. Up in the headliner, there are a few minor tears but overall the headliner looks good. The dash also houses an updated Kenwood stereo for those Sunday drives. You can find the original owner's manual from 1963 with this vehicle in the glovebox. VIN number is 30967L113463 and the car shows 32,365 miles on the clock.
