Description

In 1954, Buick reintroduced the Century using the same formula of mating the smaller, lighter Buick Special body to its largest and most powerful 322 cubic inch V8 engine with the intent of giving Buick a performance vehicle. The Century remained Buick's performance line, with engine power rising from 200 in 1954, to 236 in 1955, to 255 in 1956, and topping out at 300 from a bored-out 364 cu in engine in 1957-58, the last model years for the full sized Century line. Buick's '55 restyle produced a leaner, meaner look, and the Century delivered on its promise. Though magazines didn't test the convertible, Motor Trend clocked the light 2-door sedan at just 9.8 seconds to 60 mph and 106.5 mph flat out. Other Buicks weren't far adrift. All were very racy, though cars like these seldom hit the track. Still, the '55s were quick enough to give Buick its only two stock-car racing wins until the 1980s.This 1955 Buick Century Riviera two door hardtop is an extremely well done, mild custom that comes with a two inch drop, power disc brakes, power steering, power windows, 20"/18" Torque Thrust wheels and has been a California car its entire life. For the last 23 years this car has been owned by the legend, Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. Don Prudhomme was the first man to go over 250 mph in the quarter mile and is in the Drag Racing Hall of Fame. His race shop has done the majority of the work to the car with no expenses spared. During his ownership, the interior has been completely replaced, the motor and transmission were both rebuilt and the entire car was been repainted. The car is finished in the original shade of Spruce Green with a white roof and white lower section. The paint is in very good overall condition with only a few minor imperfections. Overall it has a great shine and luster with both front and rear bumpers being rechromed during the restoration. All of the trim and bright work around the car was refinished during the restoration and looks great as well. Inside, the interior has been reupholstered in black vinyl which looks great. The carpet is new as well as the seats, door panels and headliner. The car does have seat belts in the front and rear as well as power windows. All of which work with no problems. The original dash is still in tact as well as all of the original gauges and even the original AM radio. Under the hood, the correct 322 Cu In V8 runs great and is connected to an automatic transmission. The motor and transmission were both said to have been rebuilt by Don Prudhomme Racing and was a "no expense spared" rebuild. The engine compartment is very clean and original for the car. In the trunk, you will find new vintage matting with a full size bias ply spare. The car has been dropped 2 inches and has had 20" Torque Thrust II's added to the rear and 18's in the front. This gives the car a great, mild custom look. This California black plate Buick Century is a great custom that has a one of a kind ownership history. We have copies of the California title that shows the car was owned by Don Prudhomme Racing Inc as well as insurance cards that show the owners were Don and Lynn Prudhomme. The current mileage shows 3,916 and the VIN number is 682049926. The car is being sold on a clean California title.
