Description

The first Porsche 356 was first shown to the public at the 1949 Geneva Motor Show and its aerodynamic and nimble body was well received. The early versions were hand built at the Gmund in Austria. The A was produced until 1959, the B until 1962, and the C until 1965. The 356 was a very popular road car with a racing heritage. There were specially prepared 356 models that were entered into competitive events including the LeMans 24 Hours Race. When first introduced the 356 was powered by a rear mounted 1100 cc engine. Engine options progressed to include the 1300cc, 1500cc, and 1600cc versions. Twin choke Zenith, Solex and Weber carburetors boosted horsepower further. The Porsche 'C' version was the last of the glorious 356 series. In the eye's of many collectors and enthusiasts, it was the best of the line. It was the most advanced, developed and sophisticated in the series. The problems and shortcomings of the early 356 models had all been worked out by the time production began on the 356C. The 1582cc overhead valve opposed four-cylinder engine was capable of producing 75 horsepower. The four-wheel disc brakes was more than adequate to stop the small 82.7 inch wheelbase vehicle while the four-wheel independent suspension was very mature and its handling characteristics were nearly flawless. This beautifully restored '65 Porsche 356C comes with its correct, numbers matching 1600C engine (616/15) (717484) and has recently benefited from a professionally, window out, disassembled, base coat / clear coat paint job. Finished with tan interior, this is a beautiful color combination and the restoration of the car was done to the highest quality. We have a Certificate of Authenticity for the car that will be included with the purchase. The car is currently in the 356 registry. The paint on the car was professionally done by Impatient Creations in Birmingham Alabama in May of 2010. The car spent over 2 months in paint. The car was taken all the way down, reprimed, and had 5 coats of paint added (2 original coats of Ruby Red and 3 coats of clear). Since then, the car has only had around 100 miles put on it and it shows. The paint is nearly flawless and has no imperfections to note. It's a base coat / clear coat finish that shows a mirror like finish. The front and rear bumpers are equally as nice with no damage to either. The stainless is all new or has been polished to a show quality finish. The interior is as nice as the exterior with no notable imperfections. The seats are all freshly reupholstered along with the door panels and headliner which are new. The correct square weave carpet looks great and is the original style and pattern for the car. The dash has been painted to match the exterior and looks great. The gauges are all in good working order and the dash pad shows no cracking or imperfections. Inside, the car looks as good as when it came from the factory and does have a new headliner. There is a period correct Blaupunkdt stereo installed that was found in Germany. The previous owner had it shipped back and installed. It's a wonderful addition that will take you back in time, with a weather band. The clock was recently repaired from Hollywood Speedometer; with the same front end, but quartz movement on the backside. It keeps perfect time now and will for many years.Under the rear bonnet the correct 1600C engine runs strong and starts with a turn of the key. The motor numbers are 616/15 and 717484 and are correct for the car. The engine is nicely detailed and is very correct and original. The 4 speed manual transmission shifts with no problems and the car goes down the road as good as it looks. There has been a new clutch plate added when the engine was out during the restoration. The wheels are all in great condition and wrapped with Dunlop tires that have good tread life all around. It has won several trophies from local shows, including the World of Wheels. The car was driven by the previous owner one weekend a month for a Sunday afternoon drive or cruise-in. The rest of the time it stayed under cover in his climate controlled basement. The car can be driven anywhere and gets about 28 miles to a gallon. The underside of the car looks great and is solid throughout. The car comes with a semi-complete original tool pouch and is just missing a couple of wrenches. The car currently shows 55,750 kilometers and the VIN number is 222169.
