Description

The 1965 full-sized Pontiacs were completely restyled with more flowing sheet metal featuring "Coke-bottle" profiles and fastback rooflines on two-door hardtops. Wheelbases increased to 121 inches on all models.A new three-speed Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission replaced the previous Roto Hydramatic unit on full-sized Pontiacs for 1965. The "Turbo" was a three-speed torque converter unit similar in basic design to Chrysler's TorqueFlite and Ford's Cruise-O-Matic transmissions - a move that made torque converter automatics the universal design for shiftless transmissions, and relegated the original fluid-coupling Hydramatic to history. Though the "Turbo" transmission continued to use the Hydramatic name, it shared none of its design with the older transmission. The Turbo Hydramatic also adopted the standardized "P-R-N-D-S-L" shift pattern which replaced the "P-N-D-S-L-R" pattern long familiar to owners of Hydramatic-equipped Pontiacs, Oldsmobile's and Cadillac's.The 389 and 421 cubic-inch V8s received a number of revisions including thinner wall block castings. The standard engine for Catalina models was the 389 two-barrel rated at 256 horsepower with base three-speed manual transmission and 8.6 to 1 compression or 290 horses with Turbo Hydramatic transmission and higher 10.5 to 1 compression. This 1965 Pontiac Catalina Convertible comes finished in its original color of Reef Turquoise with a white convertible top. This great driving convertible has been tastefully restored with new paint and interior. The white with turquoise piped seats look great and are new. The pattern continues to the door panels. The Reef Turquoise exterior with white power top looks great. The car has been resprayed in the last few years and is in very good condition. The body is straight and all doors shut as they should. The power convertible top is in good overall condition and goes up and down with a flick of the switch. Both front and rear bumpers appear to be original for the car and have a great shine. They show only a bit of pitting and scratches. Inside, the seats and door panels are all new and look great. They have been recently reupholstered in white with turquoise piping and show no notable wear. The carpet shows a bit of fading along with the kick panels but overall in very good condition and appear to be original for the car. Gauges all appear to be in good working order and the steering wheel is solid with only some minor separation at the seams. Under the hood, the 389 Cu In V8 runs great and has been nicely detailed. The V8 starts with a turn of the key and goes down the road straight and smooth. Connected to the automatic transmission, the car is a joy to drive for top down fun. The trunk is carpeted and includes a full size spare and jack. The steel wheels are wrapped with radial tires and covered with correct Pontiac hub caps. The current mileage shows 67,953 miles and the VIN number is 252675P144190.
