Description

The International Harvester L Series Trucks were introduced by International Harvester in fall 1949 as the replacement for the KB-Series and ran the gamut from light pickup trucks and delivery vehicles to full size tractor trailers. Electric wipers, a radio, and a clock were optional. International would continue to produce the line until 1952 when it was replaced by the R Series. The lighter duty versions were equipped with the all-new OHV "Silver Diamond" engines in two different sizes, while the medium-duty versions retained the old 269 ci "Blue Diamond" L-head, although it was now called the "Super Blue Diamond" after some detail improvements. The largest engine has the same peak power as the smallest, but offers more torque, at 222 lb-ft versus 192 lb-ft for the Silver Diamond 240. The truck you see here is a 17,000 original mile truck that has been used as a grain truck on a farm since new. We recently purchased this truck from the grandson of the original owner. He said the truck was used to go from the farm, into town, 4 miles each way. The interior is said to be all original with the exception of the seat cover. There has been new paint applied in the last year which looks very good. There have been new front tires installed as well as new brakes and lines. This is a working dump bed that is PTO controlled. The dump cylinders were rebuilt. The paint on the truck is in very good condition and has been resprayed in the last year. There are a few minor blemishes and a small spot of touchup on the passenger side, but overall the paint looks great with a great shine and luster. The body appears to be very solid with no rot or spots of filler that we've found. The wood bed in the rear is solid with a metal floor. It is a PTO driven dump bed that works with no problems. Inside, the seat looks great and has been covered with a full seat cover. The bench seat feels solid under the cover with no holes. The door panels are good as well as the headliner. The rest of the interior appears to be all original with no restoration work ever being done. Gauges are all in good working order along with the lights. Under the hood, the 220 Cu In 6 cylinder runs great and is connected to the four speed manual transmission. This motor has tons of torque and power and were built to haul. The engine compartment is very clean and in nice, original condition. The clutch is strong and operates with no problems. The tires in the front are new but the rears are original. This is a great, low mileage, original truck that would be a great year end write off for a company of simply a great addition to any collection. VIN number is SD220164062 and the current mileage shows 17,616.
