Description

The Hupmobile was made in the U.S. from 1908 - 1940 by the Hupp Motor Car Corp. in Detroit and Cleveland. Robert and Louis Hupp founded the company. They started with a 2.8 liter 4-cylinder light runabout with two bucket seats and a bolster tank, distinguished by a 2-speed sliding-type gearbox. It sold for $750. and was joined in 1911 by a touring car with 3 forward speeds and a longer wheelbase of 9 ft. 2 inches, listed for only $900. Hupmobile, like Dodge and Ford, made only 4 cylinder cars until 1924 when they began offering 6 & 8's. Hupp's 6 & 8 cylinder car production ran from 1924 - 1941. They produced 38,000 cars in 1923 but dropped to 17,000 in 1931 from a high of 50,000 in 1929. Hupp could not achieve the volume production to capture the market the way Henry Ford was able to with his Model T.This '25 Hupmobile is a rarely seen 3 door, R Series that is in very, original condition. The car appears to have been in Chicago all of its life. The original 1925 Illinois plates are still on the car as well as the Chicago tax plate. The previous owner has had the car since 1986 in Villa Park Illinois. The paint on the car looks good overall but is older and shows a few spots of age. There is some cracking and imperfections to the paint but nothing major. The black vinyl top is new and in great condition with on rips, tears or staining. The front and rear stainless bumpers are both in very good condition with no damage showing. There has been an aftermarket trunk installed from the Taylor Trunk Company in Chicago. This appears to be the original trunk lining inside which is a very unique and interesting pattern. A great conversation piece to say the least. Inside, the interior appears to have been reupholstered many years ago. The seats and door panels all appear to be finished in an original style pattern and material for the car. They are in good condition overall but as you can see in the photos, they do show some ageing. There are a few original, rarely seen additions to the interior like a steering column mounted flash light and a small auxiliary fan on the dash. Under the hood, the inline 4 cylinder starts with ease and runs very well. The engine compartment is in very good, original condition. The 4 cylinder appears to be original for the car and is connected to the three speed manual transmission that shifts with no problems. The wood wheels are wrapped with newer bias ply wide white tires that look great. This is a wonderful piece of Hupmobile history that would be an welcome addition to any collection. The mileage currently shows 1,912 which is believed to be 101,912 actual miles for the car. VIN number is SOS10687. The car is being sold on a clear Illinois title which shows the make as a "Rcnstd veh pc Hupmobile"
