Description

1970 brought new front and rear end looks to the basic 1968 body, and it would prove to be another success. Updates included a new grille, leather seats, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, single-piston Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes (improved from the rather small-rotor Bendix 4 piston calipers of '68 - '69 ), and even non-functional scoops in the rear quarters.[3] The design and functionality of the Air Grabber option was changed this year to increase both efficiency and the "intimidation factor". A switch below the dash actuated a vacuum servo to slowly raise the forward-facing scoop, exposing shark-like teeth on either side. "High Impact" colors, with names like In-Violet, Moulin Rouge, and Vitamin C, were options available for that year. The 1970 Road Runner and GTX continued to be attractive and popular cars. The engine lineup was left unchanged although a heavy-duty three-speed manual became the standard transmission, relegating the four-speed to the option list along with the TorqueFlite automatic. This was to be the second and last year of the Road Runner convertible, with only 834 made. These cars are considered more valuable than the 1969 version due to a better dash, high impact colors and more options including the new high-back bucket seats shared with other Chrysler products which featured built-in headrests. This would also be the last year of the road runner convertible with only 834 produced. Only 3 hemi (R) code road runner convertibles were built. The declining sales of Road Runner and other muscle cars were the result of a move by insurance companies to add surcharges for muscle car policies - making insurance premiums for high performance vehicles a very expensive proposition. In 1970, there were 621 383 - 4bl Road Runner Convertibles built for the U.S. Of those, there were 429 automatics produced and this is one of those cars. Originally ordered with the TorqueFlite transmission, 383 with 4bbl, tinted glass, hood hold down pins, door moldings, air grabber hood, white convertible top and Rallye Wheels, the car was nicely optioned from the factory. We have the Galen Govier report on the car, copy of the original window sticker as well as 2 build sheets for this 67,000 ORIGINAL mile car. Finished in the original color of Ice Blue Metallic with White convertible top, the paint is in great condition with no notable blemishes. The power top is equally as nice with no staining or tears and the rear plastic window shows no cracks or discoloration. The boot is equally as nice. This is an original Air Grabber hood car which it retains today with its correct matte black stripe. Inside, the interior is finished in the correct Dark Blue which all looks new and in great condition. The carpet, door panels, reupholstered seats and kick panels are all nearly perfect throughout the car. The same goes for the dash which shows no cracking. There has been a Vintage Air A/C system installed in the car which looks great and works with no problems. Under the hood, the 383 Cu In V8 with 4bbl carb is the original motor for the car and has the last 8 of the VIN stamped on the side of the block. Connected to the TorqueFlite transmission, the car is a joy to drive. The engine compartment is very clean and shows no signs of damage. The correct Magnum 500 wheels are all in great condition and are wrapped with BF Goodrich Radial T/A's that all have good tread life left on them. Other factory options include power steering, HD brakes, HD Rally suspension and sway bar, dual exhaust, radio, front bumper guards, factory hood pins, full light packages, tinted glass, HD 59 amp batter, gauges and remote driver side mirror. The mileage currently shows 67,880 and the VIN number is RM27N0G140876.The car is being sold on a clean, actual mileage Arizona title.
