Description

The 1962-1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL was the first of the big performance Fords, with bucket seats, console, and posh interior trim. Introduced for mid-1962 as one of the "Lively Ones," the 500XL was a sub-series in the Galaxie 500 lineup (named after the 500-mile NASCAR races in which Ford was doing so well). This model was Ford's response to Chevrolet's Super Sport option for the big Impala, which was introduced the previous year and saw a significant rise in sales for 1962. Performance was not ignored either, with an even larger 406 cu in (7 l) engine being available, again in single four-barrel or triple-carbureted "six-barrel" form. At the other end of the spectrum, of course, the 223 cu in (3.7 l) "Mileage Maker" 6-cylinder engine was still available for the more budget-minded driver. Tailfins were gone, giving the 1962 models a more rounded, softer rear end look. Taillights were set lower into the rear panel and were partially sunken into the newly sculpted rear bumper. This particular '62 Ford Galaxie 500XL has a known owner history since new and comes with numerous trophies and awards. Originally purchased by the Cantrell family, the car stayed in the family until 2008. It was then sold to the second owner who has had the car ever since. The car's had one repaint in its lifetime that still looks great today. During the repaint, all of the rubber was replaced which still looks good today. The car does come with the convertible boot, it was just not photographed on the car. The paint is in very good condition and finished in original color of Corinthian White with white soft top. The top appears to be in like new condition with on staining or tears and is power. The plastic rear window is equally as nice with no discoloration or cracking. All of the chrome on the car appears to have been redone during the restoration and looks great. The stainless trim and emblems are all equally as nice going around the car. Inside, the correct blue trim looks great and is the original color for the interior. The bucket seats with console are in great condition with no rips, tears or staining. The carpet is new as well as the door panels and kick panels. All of which are in very good condition. The dash appears to be original with only very minor cracking showing. Gauges are in good working order as well as the lights, blinkers, horn and wipers. Under the hood, the big 390 Cu In V8 runs great and goes down the road with tons of power. Connected to the three speed automatic transmission, the car performs as it should on the highway and is a great cruiser. The engine compartment is very clean and in nice, original condition. In the trunk, you will find correct lining, spare tire and jack. The car comes with multiple trophies as well as it's a proven show winner! The current mileage shows 19,839 and the VIN number is 2G69Z213220.
