Description

The 1960 model year was an impressive beginning to a new decade. During the Sixties, Cadillac styling became more graceful and restrained as Bill Mitchell gradually unified the design. Few new engineering advances were introduced, but orderly design development and a conservative styling approach set Cadillac apart from other luxury makes and maintained its reputation as "The Standard of the World." To the American public, Cadillac remained a symbol of prestige, success, and good taste. The 1960 Cadillac began the evolutionary process of toning down the excesses of 1959. Although it continued the jet plane styling theme of the '59, its fins were clipped (but still prominent) and Ed Taylor redesigned the taillights into a thin strip of red plastic neatly blended into the end of the fin. Supplementing that was a second taillight in each "exhaust port," now a vertical oval that still housed the backup light as well. the simplified grille lost its horizontal divider bar and the front bumper was also simpler and less bulky. New, too, was the instrument panel. All in all, the '60 Caddy had a more formal, yet youthful, look. The car you see here has benefitted from a frame off restoration about 9 years ago and has less than 2,000 miles since completion. The paint on the car is only 3 years old and is absolutely laser straight. As you can see in the photos, the car has a mirror like finish. This is an original triple black car with black leather interior. The chrome wires with wide white BF Goodrich radial tires are brand new and still have the stickers on the tires. The paint was completed 3 years ago and was a complete, molding off, base coat, clear coat application. The goal of the owner was to have the car laser straight and they did nothing short of that. The paint has been recently wet sanded and buffed and looks nearly perfect. Both bumpers were rechromed during the restoration as well as all of the moldings polished. New weather stripping was installed throughout the car as well a new convertible top being installed. Inside, the interior is all new and looks great. The black and white leather seats are new as well as the carpet, door panels and dash pad. The seat is the original 6 way power bench which works with no problems. All power windows work as well as the power convertible top, power antenna, AM radio and A/C. The steering wheel does appear to be original for the car and shows some minor spider cracks. Under the hood, the 390 V8 has been completely rebuilt along with the transmission. The odometer was reset to zero during the rebuild and now shows 1,947. The motor has been nicely detailed and looks as good as it did when it rolled out of the factory. During the restoration, all of the hood insulation was replaced. The front end and all of its components were rebuilt during the restoration. All new bushings, shocks, bolts and nuts were installed as you can see in the photos. The complete exhaust system is new as well as the chrome wire wheels. They are wrapped with brand new white wall radial tires that still have the stickers on the tread. The trunk has been completely recovered in correct matting which looks great and does include a spare tire and jack. The underside of the car is nearly spotless and has been extremely well detailed and painted. The previous owner said that when the car was restored it showed only 73,000 original miles. Current mileage shows 1,947 and is since the restoration. The VIN number is 60F035474 and the car is being sold on a clean title, showing the previous owner has had the car since 2001. This is a true investment grade vehicle that will be as much fun to own as a AAA rated stock!
