Description

The Packard One-Twenty was produced from 1935 through 1937 and again from 1939 through 1941. The One-Twenty signified Packard's move into the mid-priced eight cylinder market; a highly competitive segment that was filled with many marquees with numerous offerings, options and price ranges. The move had been made due to financial reasons and the need to stay competitive; the Great Depression was taking its tool on the entire automotive industry but mostly on the high priced manufactures. The lower cost marquees also had a tough time but a few were still able to move a considerable amounts of products and wade out this terrible time in history. The One-Twenty was quickly designed, created, and made ready for sale. First offered in 1935, it could be purchased in numerous body styles that included coupes, convertibles, and two- and four-door configurations. Under the hood lurked an L-Head eight cylinder engine capable of producing 110 horsepower. The price range was competitive, with prices ranging from the mid $900's to the low-$1000's. This combination of mid-cost and adorned with the Packard nameplate proved to be the right combination and in its first year nearly 25,000 examples were created. The rest of the Packard model lines only accumulated to around 7000 examples being sold. For 1936 Packard increased the displacement of the engine and horsepower rose to 120 and gave the One-Twenty a top speed of 85 mph. A convertible four-door sedan was added to the line-up with a $1395 price tag, making it the most expensive One-Twenty body style. Sales continued to be strong and more than doubled over the prior year. This would be the best sales year for the Packard One-Twenty.This '36 Packard 120B comes finished in a striking red which is a very rarely seen color on these cars. While the color is not the norm for these Packard's, it accentuates the lines and makes the car look great. With its dual side mounts, wide white wall tires and flowing lines, this car is a true beauty. The paint is in very good overall condition but not concourse quality. It has a great shine and luster. The front and rear bumpers show no pitting or damage and retain a great shine. The stainless trim and front grill are all equally as nice with no damage. Inside, the interior appears to be all new with freshly upholstered leather seats, door panels and headliner. The carpet is new as well and looks great. There is no signs of wear anywhere to the interior. All of the door rubber is new as well as the window glass and rubber. The steering wheel shows no cracking and appears new. Under the hood, the inline 8 cylinder runs great and runs as smooth as these Packard's are famous for. The three speed manual transmission shifts as it should with a strong clutch. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and extremely clean. This Packard is a breath taking automobile that would be a welcome addition to your collection or a prized possession to take on a club runs and to car shows. In the trunk, you will find matching red carpet that is clean with no staining. The body matching wheels are covered with Packard hub caps and trim rings. They are all wrapped with new wide white bias ply tires all around. The current mileage shows 29,315 and the VIN number is 998I796.
