Description

The Jensen Interceptor is a sporting GT-class car that was hand-built at the Kelvin Way Factory, West Bromwich near Birmingham in the United Kingdom by Jensen Motors between 1966 and 1976. The Interceptor name had been used previously by Jensen for the Jensen Interceptor made between 1950 and 1957 at the Carters Green factory. Jensen had extensively used glass-reinforced plastic for the fabrication of body panels in the preceding two decades, but the new Interceptor saw a return to a steel body-shell instead of glass-reinforced plastic and by having the body designed by an outside firm, Carrozzeria Touring of Italy, rather than the in-house staff. The early bodies were Italian-built, by Vignale, before production by Jensen themselves began - with subtle body modifications - in West Bromwich. The engine was a Chrysler V8 initially of 383 Cu In with optional manual (Mark I, only 22 built) or TorqueFlite automatic transmissions driving the rear wheels through a limited slip differential in a conventional Salisbury rear axle. The engine grew to 440 Cu In in late 1971 with 4-barrel carburetion. The car you see here is a nearly all original example of a '71 Jensen Interceptor with only 63,000 ORIGINAL miles! The car that has spent most of its life in Southern California and Arizona with one family before it was brought to Tennessee in 2004. The owners in Tennessee were a very eccentric mother/son duo that took extremely well care of the car. They kept everything that they could find that had to do with these cars including ebay listings from when they purchased the car, shop manuals, parts manuals, wiring diagrams, history on the car, maintenance tips, parts suppliers, and copies of recent sales. The car has been repainted in its current two tone color combination which looks great. The paint quality is good overall with no major imperfections but does have some scratches, dings and imperfections. The body is solid though and shows that it was in southern California and Arizona nearly all of its life. The bumpers are both in very good condition and show no notable imperfections. Inside, the interior appears to be 100% original. There are some split seams to the seats and wear showing as you can see in the photos. Overall the condition is good with no major wear showing to the door panels, kick panels or dash. There is a dash pad over the dash but it does not show any major cracking underneath it. All of the gauges work as they should. Under the hood, the Chrysler 383 Cu In V8 is all original in appearance and has been nicely detailed. Connected to the automatic transmission, these cars are incredibly fast and fun to drive. With top speeds over 150mph, these are incredibly fun cars for the money. VIN number is 1255117 and the current mileage shows 63,260 which is said to be actual for the car. This car is priced to sell!
