Description

Buick sales drastically declined in the late 1950's due to economical recession, unpopular styling, and product problems. In 1955 their sales reached 750,000 and by 1959 they had declined to barely 200,000. Buick needed to reverse their plummeting sales. Their solution was a bold move with styles and models that were devoid of the traditional Buick trademarks from the past. Throughout the early 1960s, Buick would debut new names, engines and designs that had never been seen before. Nearly all of their cars were remolded and either stopped production or changed the names of the well known Special, Super, Roadmaster, Century, and Limited to the LeSabre, Electra, and Invicta. The Electra model was considered to be the most luxurious in the lineup. It was built for both speed and comfort and was considered to be the top car amongst its competitors. It was given the nickname 'Deuce and a Quarter' and was one of the highest selling Buicks for over 30 years. The drastically restyled 1959 models were replaced by all-new models for 1960. Buick's flagship was the Electra, now riding atop a Buick-only 'K-member frame. The 1959 car had cantered headlights; for 1960, they were laid flat and parallel to the bumper, complementing the wider, longer and lower overall styling theme of the early 1960s. They had a pair of broad trim panels that cloaked the lower body of the Electra 225, neatly integrating the front and rear bumpers with the body of the car, and giving it a very clean and elegant look. The car you see here is nearly all original with the exception of one repaint in the original colors of Tahiti Beige and Cordovan. This '60 Electra four door hardtop "Flattop" is a wonderful driving classic that is incredibly solid and original. The car was repainted recently and looks great today with no notable imperfections or damage. Both front and rear bumpers are in very good overall condition and show no significant pitting or scratches. Inside, the interior looks to be all original with no major wear. There are some spots showing from age, but for a 53 year old interior, it's in great condition. The carpet is good along with the seats that show no major rips or tears. The headliner has two small holes, less then 1/4" in diameter and some minor staining. Overall good though. This is a highly optioned car that comes with autronic eye, power driver seat, power windows, power steering and power brakes. Under the hood, the 401 Cu In V8 is nicely detailed and starts with a turn of the key and a push of the accelerator. Connected to the automatic transmission, the car is a joy to drive. With its radial tires wrapped around original wheels and correct hubcaps, the car goes down the road straight and drives like an original car should. In the trunk, you will find all original trunk matting as well as a full size spare and jack. The mileage currently shows 51,962 and the car is being sold on a clean title.
