Description

By the end of the 1950's, the MGA was starting to feel its age and a replacement car was needed. The replacement was expected to focus on performance and comfort. The MGB introduced improvements over the prior MG model that including roll-up windows and glove compartments, to name a few. In 1957, Frua, an Italian stylist, was commissioned to style a new car. What was original conceived as a closed car, evolved into a roadster. The MGB was in production from 1962 through 1980. Originally thought to be in production for only 5 years, turned into 18 years. During that time nearly 389,000 roadsters and more than 125,250 GT's were produced. The car you see here is a wonderful little example of a steel bumper '73 MG B that has been with the same owner since August of 1988! This is a nicely restored little MG that is said to have only 28,000 original miles. On the Illinois title we have from 1988, it shows that the car showed only 21,000 miles when the previous owner purchased it. Since then, it has been a weekend toy and traveled only a bit more than 7,000 miles since. The paint on the car is in very good condition and shows no notable imperfections. There are a few minor imperfections to the body but overall it's very solid and straight. The top is in very good condition with only one small tear that's a bit more than an inch long to the drivers side by the rear side window. The front and rear steel bumpers look great and retain a great shine with no damage. Inside, the seats are in very good condition as is the carpet and door panels. The black carpet is new in the car and in great condition. All gauges are in great condition and work with no problems. The same goes for the lights, blinkers, wipers and horn. There was an older aftermarket AM/FM/Tape player installed under the passenger side dash but it is inoperable. Under the hood, the inline 4 cylinder starts with no problems and is connected to the four speed manual transmission. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and even includes the original California smog pump. Normally when these cars come out of California, this is the first thing to go. This shows the originality of the car. In the trunk, there is a full size wire wheel spare as well as the battery and battery box. The trunk is solid with no rot to be found. The current mileage shows 28,098 and is said to be original for the car. VIN number is GHN5UD312891G.
