Description

The 1952-1954 Mercury Monterey was a standout among early '50s Mercury's for exceptional styling and sound engineering, coupled with solid construction and high-quality fit and finish. Monterey was a top-line subseries in 1952, then became a separate line (with a three-model Custom series further down the price scale) for 1953-54. Ford's flathead V-8 continued in the first two years, with its highest horsepower rating ever in Mercury tune. For 1954, the company's new Y-Block overhead-valve V-8 arrived with a five-main-bearing crankshaft and standard four-barrel carburetor. After being a "little Lincoln" in styling and body shell for 1949-1951, Mercury again became more of a junior line in these years, with similar styling to Ford but on a three-inch longer wheelbase. This 1952 Mercury Monterey Convertible just came out of a collection of Mercury's here in Missouri. The car comes with a stack of receipts from when it was in Montana and Arizona where the owner spent nearly $10,000 on the restoration. This included all new chrome, new paint, new wiring and a complete engine rebuild. Finished in its original color of Vassar Yellow with White top, the car shows very well. The paint is in very good condition with a great luster. The white convertible top is power and operates as it should. It shows no major wear, rips or tears. Bumpers and door handles were all rechromed during the restoration and all other stainless was polished. All of which look great. Inside, the interior has been reupholstered in gray and white vinyl which looks stunning. All of the seats have been recovered and show no notable wear. The same goes for the door panels. The carpet is in good overall condition but older. The car is complete with power windows that all work with no issues. Gauges are all in good condition as is the steering wheel. Under the hood, the 255 Cu In V8 runs great and has been through a complete rebuild. We have a receipt for the rebuild that shows a cost of nearly $2,000. The engine compartment is very clean and free of any damage. Connected to the automatic transmission, the car is a joy to drive and goes down the road with no issues that we've found. In the trunk you will find a full size spare and jack along with a rubber mat. The wheels are covered with correct Mercury hubcaps and wrapped with wide white bias ply tires. The current mileage shows 3,075 and the VIN number is 52LA15688M.
