Description

Introduced in March 1961, the 3000 Mark II came with three SU HS4 carburetors and an improved camshaft, designated the BT7 Mark II (4-seat version) and BN7 Mark II (2-seat version). However, upon the introduction of the BJ7 (2+2 seats) model in January 1962, the number of carburetors was reduced to two, (SU type HS6) because of the problems experienced with balancing three carburetors. As a result of the introduction of the BJ7, the BN7 Mark II was discontinued in March 1962, and the BT7 Mark II followed in June 1962. Externally, the main changes introduced with the BJ7 were a vertical barred front grille, wind-up windows rather than side curtains, an improved hood, and a wrap-around windscreen. Optional extras were similar to the Mark I, although the option of a factory hardtop was not available from the BJ7's introduction. From August 1961 a brake servo was also available as an optional extra, which greatly improved braking performance. The BJ7 was discontinued in October 1963 with the introduction of the 3000 Mark III.The '63 Austin Healey 3000 MKII you see here has benefitted from a high quality restoration by Classic Showcase in Oceanside California. During the restoration process the engine went through a rebuild, all mechanical components were serviced, rebuilt or replaced, including the brake system, fuel system and electrical system. The overdrive was serviced, the gas tank was epoxy sealed, a new sending unit was installed along with a new clutch slave and converted to negative ground. The suspension was restored and new rear springs were added. The body was stripped, fitted as needed, primed, sealed, painted and base coat/clear coat in the original color of red. New rubber seals, grommets and hardware were also installed. The trim was replaced as well as new wire loom and a new convertible top and boot, carpets and panels. The car also comes with a tonneau cover and has a Mota Lita steering wheel. The instruments were serviced and a new stainless steel exhaust system was installed as well as new wire wheels and new tires. The paint on this car is nearly perfect with no notable imperfections. The same goes for the chrome bumpers in the front and rear, as well as all of the bright work. The black soft top is new and in great condition. It folds nicely behind the front seats. The car does come with a black tonneau cover. Inside, the black interior looks great and is nicely finished with red piping. The carpet is new as well as the door panels and dash. All gauges are in good working order and are in very good condition. In the trunk you will find a full size chrome wire wheel spare, jack and knock off hammer. Under the hood, the inline 6 cylinder is fresh and runs perfectly. This car does have the electronic overdrive which along with the other upgrades allows it to keep up with modern traffic without any effort. I would have no reservation in getting in the car tomorrow and taking a trip anywhere in the country. The underside has been finished as nice as the rest of the car and solid throughout. This is an amazing little car that is well sorted out and ready for your next adventure. The car comes with a CD that shows every picture from the restoration as well as a Austin Healey Drivers Handbook. VIN number is HBJ7L234416 and currently the car shows 57,035 miles.
