Description

In 1949, NASCAR introduced the Strictly Stock division, after sanctioning Modified and Roadster division races in 1948. Eight races were run, on seven different dirt ovals and the Daytona Beach beach/street course. When the series was formed under the name, strictly stock, the cars were just that, production vehicles with no modifications allowed. The term stock car implied that the vehicles racing were unmodified street cars. Drivers would race with factory installed bench seats and AM radios still in the cars. To prevent broken glass from getting on the race track, windows would be rolled down, external lights would be removed or taped over, and wing mirrors would be removed. The 1957 fuel injected 150 model Chevrolet (known as "the black widow") was the first car to be outlawed by NASCAR. The 1957 Chevrolet won the most races, with 59 wins, more than any car to ever race in the cup series. Before the mid-1960s, cars were typically based on full sized cars such as the Chevrolet Bel Air and Ford Galaxie. Beginning in 1966, mid-size cars including the Ford Fairlane and Plymouth Belvedere were adopted and soon became the norm. The 1957 Chevrolet 210 you see here is a wonderful replica of what the classic stock cars looked like. During the restoration, this car went through extreme details to follow the "1957 Chevrolet Stock Car Competition Guide" and bring it up to "race standards". From the stabilizers and dual shocks under the car to the roll bar and deleted back seat inside, the car has had careful detail applied throughout. Restoration was just completed in March of this year and has had only 200 miles put on it since. The paint on the car is newer and in great condition. There have been vinyl decals applied that look great and are fitted in the correct places for the classic Nascar look. All of the stickers can be removed if desired. The hood and trunk have both had hooks and bungee's installed per Nascar rules. The front and rear chrome bumpers have been rechromed and are both in great condition. The same goes for all of the chrome and stainless trim surrounding the car. Inside, the front seat has been reupholstered in the correct pattern but the rear seat has been removed. The roll bar in the rear is made from 2 inch steel tubing and is correctly U-Bolted to the frame. The seat belts are bolted to the roll bar in correct fashion. There has been a gauge cluster added under the dash that includes a tachometer, oil pressure and water temperature. The steering wheel has been padded and wrapped in typical Nascar fashion as well. Under the hood, the car is powered by a powerful and freshly rebuilt 327 cu In V8 that runs great. Connected to the Powerglide transmission, the car runs down the road with no problems and has tons of power. Cooling is handled by an aluminum radiator with fan rings on the back and heavy duty hose clamps on the coolant hose. The correct Stock Car details are extensive on this car. They include the correct side exhaust that passes through the frame and out the sides, steel plates welded to the bottom of the control arms, front and rear stabilizers, dual shocks in the rear with a heavy duty rear end, radiator dirt / rock screen and 6 lug wheels. VIN number is B57J269703.
