Description

The 1960 model year was an impressive beginning to a new decade. During the Sixties, Cadillac styling became more graceful and restrained as Bill Mitchell gradually unified the design. Few new engineering advances were introduced, but orderly design development and a conservative styling approach set Cadillac apart from other luxury makes and maintained its reputation as "The Standard of the World." To the American public, Cadillac remained a symbol of prestige, success, and good taste. The 1960 Cadillac began the evolutionary process of toning down the excesses of 1959. Although it continued the jet plane styling theme of the '59, its fins were clipped (but still prominent) and Ed Taylor redesigned the taillights into a thin strip of red plastic neatly blended into the end of the fin. Supplementing that was a second taillight in each "exhaust port," now a vertical oval that still housed the backup light as well. the simplified grille lost its horizontal divider bar and the front bumper was also simpler and less bulky. New, too, was the instrument panel. All in all, the '60 Caddy had a more formal, yet youthful, look. The car you see here is said to be a 76,000 original mile car that has spent its entire life in South Dakota with one family. This is nearly an all original car that has never gone through any kind of restoration. When we purchased the car, we took the original plastic seat covers off for the first time since new. The seats underneath look as good as they did the day they left the factory. This is an all original paint car with only a small spot of touch up behind the driver's side front wheel. The original Parisian Sand paint is in good overall condition but does have some small nicks, dings and scratches as you can expect from a car of this age. Both front and rear bumpers look great with only some minor scratches and pitting showing. Inside, the car still retains its original plum interior which is in very good, original condition. The seats are all in great condition with no signs of wear. The seats have been covered with plastic seat covers since new and we just took them off. The carpet, headliner and door panels are also all in good, original condition with only minimal wear showing. All lights, blinkers, wipers and horn work with no problems. Under the hood, the 390 Cu In V8 runs great like a 76,000 mile car should. The engine compartment is very clean and original with no modifications or damage that we have found. With a turn of the key the car starts with no pumping of the gas or smoking. On the road, the car performs exactly as you would expect from a 76,000 mile car. Very smooth with tons of power. The underside of the car is solid with no rot that we have seen. All four tires are newer and in good condition as are the Cadillac wheel covers. The trunk is solid with the original matting. It includes a full size spare and jack. VIN number is 60A022562 and the current mileage shows 76,897 which is said to be original for the car.
