Description

The Bonneville name first appeared in 1954 on a pair of bubble-topped GM Motorama concept cars called the Bonneville Special. It entered the production lineup as a high-performance, fuel-injected luxury convertible within the Star Chief line in the 1957 model year and was loaded with every conceivable option as standard equipment with the exception of optional air conditioning. This put the Bonneville in a Cadillac-like price range of $5,000 - more than double the base price of a Chieftain four-door sedan. A fully equipped Bonneville could cost more than a Cadillac. Only 630 units were produced that first year, making it one of the most collectible Pontiacs of all time. The following year it would become its own separate model, and it would endure until 2005 as the division's top-of-the-line model. The name was taken from the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, the site of much early auto racing and most of the world's land speed record runs, which was named in turn after U.S. Army officer Benjamin Bonneville. This particular 1960 Pontiac Bonneville has been tastefully restored and it shows. The beautiful Shell tone Ivory paint is in excellent condition with no imperfections to speak of. Both front and rear bumpers are in great condition along with all metal accents and emblems. The convertible top is also new and works effortlessly. The wheels and tires are in great condition with about 90 % tread wear left. Inside, the beautifully kept tri-color Fawn leather interior bucket seats are in excellent condition with only minimal wear showing which is expected from original leather seating. The carpets, door panels, dash and carpets are all equally as nice. The vehicle is equipped with power windows that all work as they should.Under the hood the vehicle retains the 389 CI V8 attached to a Super Hydra-Matic automatic transmission that shifts perfectly. The vehicle is also equipped with power brakes and power steering. The odometer shows 65,688 miles and is said to be original for the vehicle but we do not have any documentation to support it. Inside the trunk, the vehicle is clean and solid with no rust or rot that we have seen. The same goes for the underside which is also clean and solid. In the trunk you will find a spare tire and jack with a trunk mat that is in great shape. The VIN is 860L11258 and the vehicle is being sold on a clean Virginia title.
