An all-new body and chassis with perimeter "Guard Beam" frame and all-coil suspension replacing the previous leaf springs highlighted the 1961 full-sized Oldsmobile's, which were joined by the new compact F-85. Wheelbases remained the same as in 1960, but overall length and width were reduced slightly. All full-sized Oldsmobile's were now powered by the 394 cubic-inch Rocket V8 with the Dynamic 88 getting a two-barrel, 250 hp version that used regular gas, while the Super 88 was powered by a four-barrel "Ultra High Compression" 394 Skyrocket V8 rated at 325 hp. The Skyrocket engine was available as an extra-cost option on the Dynamic 88. A new three-speed "Roto" Hydra-matic transmission that was smaller and lighter than the previous four-speed unit was introduced as an option. The 61 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 "Bubble Top" you see here is a very original car that has been given the "Rat Rod" look. With new 18" wheels and tires installed all around and an original body that shows everything. The car has been lowered in the front and back to give it the perfect stance as well. The paint on the car is 100% original and does show the rat rod patina. There are a few spots of filler as you can see in the photos as the gray areas. The body is very solid overall with both front and rear chrome bumpers in great condition. Inside, the seats have been recovered in the original colors and look great. The door panels and carpet are both in good overall condition with no major imperfections. The dash is solid and has been recovered. All gauges are in good working order along with the lights, blinkers and wipers. There is some cracking to the steering wheel. Under the hood, the 394 Cu In V8 runs great and starts with a turn of the key. Connected to the automatic transmission, the car goes down the road with no problems. The engine compartment is mostly original with no damage and has been tastefully painted. In the trunk, you will find no rot and original matting. The underside shows no undercoating and is solid throughout. No undercoating hiding rot. The wheels are Boss Style 338 18's and are wrapped with newer radial tires. VIN number is 612C04735 and the current mileage shows 21,513.
