Description

The 1939 Chevrolet Master 85 and Master DeLuxe had essentially the same body as the 1937-38 models, but reworked just enough to give them a fresh look. They got a new front clip that gave them a distinct resemblance to the contemporary Cadillac. There was no convertible this time, but extra passengers in the Sport Coupe were provided with jump seats in lieu of the increasingly unpopular rumble seat. The big news for the 1939 Chevrolet Master 85 and Master DeLuxe was replacement of the troublesome Dubonnet-type Knee-Action suspension with a new suspension system employing -- like the senior GM cars -- coil springs and wishbones. This arrangement was standard equipment on the Master DeLuxe models but unavailable on the base series, now known as the Master 85. A vacuum-assisted, column-mounted gearshift substantially reduced gear-changing effort, though some drivers complained that it was impossible to "speed-shift" the transmission. Optional at $10 extra, this device was installed on most of the 1939 cars. Demand for the trunkless coach and sedan styles had fallen off so sharply that both models were dropped from production during the model year. Prices were reduced by anywhere from $20 to $51, and calendar year volume increased by nearly one-third. This particular 1939 Chevy Master Deluxe has been tastefully restored about a year ago. The Black paint is in excellent condition with no imperfections to speak of. The chrome bumpers appear to be new and in excellent condition. All metal accents along the vehicle are also in great condition. The rims and tires are also new with about 95 % left on the tire tread. Inside, the interior is in great condition and all new. The seats have been replaced in the original style fabric and colors and looks great. The same goes for the carpets, dash, headliner and door panels. Under the hood the period correct 6-cylinder engine runs and drives beautifully. Attached to a 3-speed transmission on the floor that shifts seamlessly. The complete drive train has been rebuilt and runs great. The vehicle is equipped with a split manifold, dual exhaust and is equipped with the desired floor shifter. Inside the desired trunk, the vehicle still retains an original style spare tire and tools and is in great condition with no rust or rot that we have seen. The same goes for the underside. The VIN is 21JA0541116 and is being sold on a clean Iowa title.
