Description

n 1961 Chrysler revived the Newport name for their full-size entry-level model. Priced at $2,964, the Newport was strategically placed to fill the price gap between Dodge and Chrysler that emerged when DeSoto was deleted. Quite successful, the Newport comprised the bulk of Chrysler production. The base Newport sedans were detrimmed versions of Chrysler's traditional upmarket models that featured hubcaps rather than full-wheel covers, very plain interiors and a minimal amount of exterior trim. Unfortunately, in the long run, cheapening the brand's cache with an inexpensive model wasn't good for Chrysler. The '61 Newport was available to the buying public as either a 2-door convertible, 2-door hardtop, 4-door sedan, 4-door hardtop and 4-door station wagon. Though most Newports were equipped with the 305 hp 383 in V8, the base engine was the 361 in V8 engine that was rated at 265 hp. The trademark fins were removed for the 1962 model year. For 1963 the Newport was restyled next to the New Yorker and Chrysler 300. This body style remained until 1964. The Newport received the small, chrome-topped fins again in 1964. The car you see here is an incredibly original 90,000 mile car that has never seen any kind of major restoration. Finished in its original colors of Persian White with Turquoise interior, this 1964 Chrysler Newport 4 door hardtop is a wonderful driving example of a rarely seen Mopar. The car has been resprayed in its original color of what some time ago but it still has a good shine and is in good condition. There are no major imperfections to note to the paint. The trim and bumpers all appears to be original for the car and are in good, original condition. There are a few minor scratches and dings but no major damage. Inside, the interior is nearly all original and in very good overall condition. The front seats have had the cloth inserts replaced but the vinyl is original. The carpet, dash, headliner, door panels and rear seat are all original and in great condition. The carpet does show some staining but has been covered with original style floor mats. The dash and steering wheel do show cracking as you can see in the photos. All gauges appear to be in good working order as well as the lights, blinkers, wipers and horn. This is an A/C car with power windows.Under the hood, the 361 Cu In V8 is incredibly clean and runs great. The engine compartment is nicely detailed as well and shows no damage. The car comes with power steering, power brakes and A/C. On the road the car drives great and the motor is very strong connected to the three speed push button automatic transmission. The underside of the car has never seen any kind of undercoating and is incredibly solid. The steel wheels are wrapped with newer wide white bias ply tires and wire hubcaps. Current mileage shows 90,940 and the VIN number is 8143252762. The car is being sold on a clean Oklahoma title where it has been for the majority of its life.
