Description

The 1960 model year was an impressive beginning to a new decade. During the Sixties, Cadillac styling became more graceful and restrained as Bill Mitchell gradually unified the design. Few new engineering advances were introduced, but orderly design development and a conservative styling approach set Cadillac apart from other luxury makes and maintained its reputation as "The Standard of the World." To the American public, Cadillac remained a symbol of prestige, success, and good taste. The 1960 Cadillac began the evolutionary process of toning down the excesses of 1959. Although it continued the jet plane styling theme of the '59, its fins were clipped (but still prominent) and Ed Taylor redesigned the taillights into a thin strip of red plastic neatly blended into the end of the fin. Supplementing that was a second taillight in each "exhaust port," now a vertical oval that still housed the backup light as well. the simplified grille lost its horizontal divider bar and the front bumper was also simpler and less bulky. New, too, was the instrument panel. All in all, the '60 Caddy had a more formal, yet youthful, look. The car you see here is said to be a 72,000 original mile car that has spent the last 20 years in a private collection in Iowa where it was well exercised whenever possible. The car has been repainted in the original color of black but the interior is said to be all original and looks great. The trunk matting is the original as well and all of the original equipment is still in tact. The paint on the car is in very good condition with just some minor imperfections. There is some cracking to the paint and it is showing its age in a few spots but overall it has a great shine. The bumpers and stainless trim all have a great shine with no damage or pitting. Inside, the car still retains its original black and white interior which is in very good, original condition. The seats are all in great condition with no major signs of wear. The same goes for the carpet, headliner and door panels which are all in good, original condition with only minimal wear showing. The original dash does show some cracking. All lights, blinkers, wipers and horn work with no problems. Under the hood, the 390 Cu In V8 runs great like a 72,000 mile car should. The engine compartment is very clean and original with no modifications or damage that we have found. With a turn of the key the car starts with no pumping of the gas or smoking. On the road, the car performs exactly as you would expect from a 72,000 mile car. Very smooth with tons of power. The underside of the car is solid with no rot that we have seen. All four tires are new and in good condition as are the Cadillac wheel covers. The trunk is solid with the original matting. It includes a full size spare and jack. VIN number is 60G048434 and the current mileage shows 72,357 which is said to be original for the car.
